INTERRUPTIONS AND RIVALRY

1483 Words
Ashley I suspected he was a playboy, but I didn't expect to confirm it this early. I almost got jealous as I took in the sight of the lady standing in front of me. A stunning Latina woman, her curves and thick blonde hair reaching her waist made her a knockout, and I could understand why he would want to be with her. "Who's this?" The woman asked, her voice husky, her eyes fixed on me. "No one," I replied quickly, and for some reason I felt a pang of disappointment and heartbreak. I didn't want to stick around and witness this awkward encounter any longer. "I'm just a business associate," I added, trying to sound nonchalant. But Christian's eyes lingered on me, and he took a step forward. "Ashley, wait," he said, his voice low and urgent. I kept walking, my heels clicking on the floor. "I have to go," I muttered, not looking back. I quickened my pace, not wanting to hear what he had to say. I couldn't believe I had almost fallen for his charms. But Christian was undeterred. He followed and reached for my hand, his fingers brushing against mine. I felt a jolt of electricity, and my heart skipped a beat. I pulled away, my eyes flashing a warning. He gets the hint, and lets me leave. "Samantha, I've told you to stop calling me 'babe.' We aren't together anymore," Christian said, his voice firm. I felt a twinge of satisfaction over hearing that. So, she wasn't his girlfriend. But I didn't want to get involved in their drama, and I certainly didn't want to be the rebound girl. As I emerged into the bright sunlight, I let out a sigh of relief. I was glad to be out of that awkward situation, but a part of me couldn't help but still feel drawn to Christian. I shook my head, chiding myself for even thinking about him. I had more important things to worry about, like my career and my patients. Just then, my phone rang, shrill in the silence. I answered, my heart sinking as I heard the urgent tones of the hospital's emergency room. "Ashley, we need you here now. There's been a fatal accident, and a child is bleeding to death. He needs surgery, stat." My mind snapped back into focus, and I forgot all about Christian and his drama. I buckled up and stepped on the gas, my heart racing with urgency. This was what mattered, not some playboy's charms. As I sped towards the hospital, my mind was already racing with the possibilities. What kind of injuries would the child have? Would I be able to save him? The hospital's emergency room was a blur of activity as I rushed in, my scrubs and stethoscope at the ready. I barely had time to think, let alone worry about Christian or his love life. This was what I was made to save lives, one patient at a time. Christian I'm seething with frustration as I watch Ashley walk away, the sparks between us still crackling in the air. I feel like I've been punched in the gut, my breath knocked out of me. I can't believe Samantha had to show up and ruin everything. "Ashley, wait!" I said, trying to stop her, but I only managed to brush her fingers. The electric sparks I feel whenever we touch are undeniable, and I'm left wanting more. She gave me a look, and said in a loud voice, 'don't touch me.' I took the hint and let her leave. I watch as she walks away, the picture of disappointment in her eyes still fresh in my memory. I feel a pang of regret, knowing that I've messed up. I've never felt like running after a woman and begging her to let me explain as badly as I do now. For Christ's sake, I didn't even know her well, yet she was already making me feel so strongly about her. I'm frustrated, my mind racing with thoughts of how I can make things right. I stepped out of the elevator and dragged Samantha to a corner, my anger boiling over. The smirk of triumph on her face makes me want to slap the s**t out of her, but I would never hit a woman. "Samantha, what is wrong with you?" I demanded, trying to keep my cool. "I've told you to stay away from me. What are you doing here? Are you stalking me?" She scoffs, her eyes flashing with defiance. "As if. I work here, Christian, and it seems like you're the one stalking me." Her words are like a slap in the face, and I feel my anger surge. "Samantha, the next time you pull that stupid stunt you pulled today, I'll make sure you lose your job," I warn her, my voice low and even. She scoffs again, her voice laced with anger. "So, some random lady you met today, who you just want to f**k, is more important than me, who has loved you and will always love you?" "Christian, I made a mistake, one I deeply regret. Can't you just forgive me and let's move on?" she says, her voice laced with desperation. "You call flirting and sleeping with my best friend a mistake?" I asked, my voice incredulous. She pouts and tries to touch me again, but I push her away. "But you forgave him; why can't you forgive me?" she asks, her voice trembling. "He has more value than you ever will," I said bluntly. "And for your information, I feel more for that woman than I ever felt for you in the years we dated. She will never be some random girl to just fuck." I'm getting more frustrated. "I know we've f****d around even after we broke up, but I'm done. I'm done playing around with you. This is the last warning I'll give you. Try this rubbish again, and I'll ruin you." I turn and walked away, leaving her standing there, her eyes flashing with anger. I'm so pissed. Samantha always has a way of spoiling any good relationship I've tried to enter these past few months. I don't know how she always finds me, but she does, and she ruins whatever it is I try to build with another woman. To say I'm sick and tired of her bullshit is an understatement. I'm fed up with her constant drama and manipulation. I'm done with her, and I'm not going to let her ruin this one for me. I'll do whatever it takes to keep her away from Ashley and me. As I walked out of the building, I spotted Jacob. He sees me and walks towards me with a curious expression on his face. "Dude, I was about to call you. Where did you disappear?" he asks, eyeing me with amusement. I rubbed my face and sighed, feeling frustrated. "I was talking to Ashley when, guess who showed up?" "Samantha?" Jacob asks, his voice laced with laughter. I nodded, my expression grim. "Yeah, she ruined everything. Finally, I get a chance to talk to her, and that devil incarnate shows up." Jacob burst out laughing, his eyes shining with mirth. "Oh man, this is priceless!" I scolded at him, my annoyance growing. "It's not funny, Jake. And how did you know it was Samantha?" Jacob's laughter subsides, and he shakes his head. "I saw her fuming and storming off as I got off the elevator on my way out. Christian, this doctor has got you wrapped around her finger, and you haven't even had a proper conversation with her." He pats my shoulder, his expression serious. "Don't worry about Samantha; I'll keep an eye on her from now on. This doctor is important to me." I raise an eyebrow but don't say anything. I start walking towards the car, and he jogs after me. "Where are we headed?" he asks, his curiosity evident. Getting in the car, I answer him, "We're going to the hospital." Jacob's eyes light up with amusement. "Dude, you can't be serious. You're going to beg her?" I scoff, my expression annoyed. "Who says I'm going to beg?" Jacob rolls his eyes. "Of course, Christian. You're just going for a check-up with a very particular doctor whom your ex just offended, whom you seem to have strong feelings for. There's nothing suspicious about going to the hospital at all." I tell him to shut up, and we drive to the hospital in silence. On the way, I get frustrated, trying to think of a way to apologize and explain. I can't remember the last time I apologized to a lady; this was going to be so hard. As we arrive at the hospital, the sight that greets me makes my blood boil with rage. Some blonde guy is kissing my doctor.
