Ashley's Pov
I could see the relief on Alexi's face. She rushed to his side, tears of joy gathered in her eyes. "Jacob, oh my god, I was so scared," she whispered, taking his hand in hers.
Jacob smiled weakly, his eyes still groggy from the anesthesia. "Hey, I'm okay," he whispered back. "I'm sorry, Alexi. I feel like I put you through so much."
Alexi shook her head, her voice trembling. "You didn't do anything, Jacob. You're just...you're always getting hurt because of Christian's deals."
I felt a pang of guilt at her words, knowing that she was right. Christian's deals always seemed to put us in danger. But as I looked at Christian, I could see the guilt etched on his face. He was trying to protect us, even if it meant putting us in harm's way.
