My Chubby Wife Is the Wolf Queen
Chapter 3
The Eyes in the Darkness
A low growl echoed through Blackwood Forest.
The pair of golden eyes drifted closer, cutting through the darkness like burning embers.
Luna instinctively tightened her hold on Ethan.
Her heart pounded against her chest.
"Who's there?" she called, her voice trembling.
No answer came.
Only the sound of slow, deliberate footsteps.
Scar emerged from the shadows once more, placing himself between Luna and the approaching presence.
His ears flattened.
His crimson eyes narrowed.
For the first time since Luna had seen him, the mighty Guardian looked... cautious.
The golden-eyed figure stepped into a shaft of moonlight.
It was another wolf.
Larger than Scar.
Its snow-white fur glowed beneath the full moon, and strange golden markings covered its body like ancient runes. Around its neck hung a broken silver chain.
The two wolves stared at one another in silence.
Then the white wolf spoke.
"You've hidden her long enough."
Luna gasped.
The wolf... could speak.
Scar's voice was deep and steady.
"Leave."
"The Queen belongs to the throne."
"She belongs to herself."
A tense silence settled over the forest.
Then, without warning, the white wolf smiled.
"So... you've grown attached."
His golden eyes shifted to Luna.
"My Queen."
Luna froze.
"I... I'm not a queen."
The white wolf lowered his head.
"You simply don't remember."
---
Ethan groaned softly.
His fingers twitched.
"Luna..."
She immediately turned to him.
"I'm here."
His eyes slowly opened.
The moment he saw the two giant wolves, his face turned pale.
"What... are they?"
Before Luna could answer, the white wolf took a step forward.
The silver crest beneath Luna's feet burst into light again.
Ancient symbols spiraled upward, surrounding her like glowing ribbons.
The air grew heavy.
A gentle voice echoed inside her mind.
"The first seal has been broken."
Pain exploded through Luna's head.
She clutched her temples and cried out.
Images flashed before her eyes.
A magnificent palace beneath three full moons.
Thousands of wolves kneeling.
A silver crown stained with blood.
A woman with long silver hair placing a newborn baby into the arms of a black wolf.
"Protect my daughter..."
"No matter the cost."
The vision shattered.
Luna collapsed to her knees, breathing hard.
"What... was that?"
Scar looked away.
"The past."
---
Far away, within Moonfang Castle, King Darius stood before an ancient map carved into black stone.
One by one, twelve Alpha Lords entered the throne room.
Each bowed before him.
"The Blood Hunters have begun their search," one Alpha reported.
"They will reach Blackwood before sunrise."
Darius smiled.
"Excellent."
He turned toward a towering iron door at the end of the hall.
"Prepare the prisoner."
The Alpha hesitated.
"Your Majesty... are you certain?"
"If Luna remembers everything..."
Darius's smile faded.
"...then only one person can break her."
The heavy doors slowly opened.
Chains rattled in the darkness.
A shadowy figure lifted his head.
His glowing blue eyes opened.
"...Is my daughter alive?"
---
Back in Blackwood Forest, the white wolf suddenly stepped backward.
"They're coming."
Scar sniffed the air.
His expression darkened.
"I smell silver."
The Blood Hunters.
Dozens of torches appeared between the trees.
Metal armor glinted beneath the moonlight.
Luna's heart sank.
There were too many to count.
Scar bared his fangs.
"Take Ethan and run."
"What about you?" Luna asked.
"I'll buy you time."
The white wolf looked toward the approaching soldiers.
"No..."
His voice was grim.
"You don't understand."
Scar turned.
"What do you mean?"
The white wolf's golden eyes filled with dread.
"Those aren't Blood Hunters..."
"They're bait."
The forest suddenly fell silent.
Then—
A chilling laugh echoed from directly behind Luna.
She spun around.
Standing only a few feet away was a man dressed in black armor, his golden eyes glowing beneath the moonlight.
He smiled.
"So..."
"We finally meet..."
"...Your Majesty."
