THE MOON'S WHISPER

Chapter 6: The Moon's Whisper The morning sun barely reached the forest floor as Lyra made her way along the narrow path carrying a basket of herbs. Birds chirped overhead, but an uneasy silence lingered beneath the cheerful sounds of nature. Ever since the strange encounter the previous night, she couldn't shake the feeling that unseen eyes followed her every move. She stopped near a patch of moon lilies. "They're blooming during the day..." she whispered, kneeling beside the glowing flowers. "That shouldn't be possible." As her fingers brushed the petals, a sharp pain shot through her palm. She gasped. A silver glow spread beneath her skin, racing up her arm like flowing light before disappearing just as quickly. "What... was that?" A deep growl echoed through the trees. Lyra froze. Branches snapped one after another. Out of the shadows stepped three enormous wolves. Their black fur shimmered unnaturally, and their crimson eyes locked onto her with terrifying hunger. She slowly backed away. "I don't want any trouble..." The largest wolf lowered its head and bared razor-sharp fangs. Then it charged. Lyra screamed and turned to run. Her basket spilled across the forest floor as she sprinted between towering trees. Her heart pounded so loudly she could barely hear the wolves closing in behind her. "No... no... please!" A root caught her foot. She crashed to the ground. The wolves surrounded her. Their growls vibrated through the air. The leader stepped forward, raising one massive paw. Lyra squeezed her eyes shut. But the attack never came. A chilling voice echoed through the forest. "Touch her... and you die." The wolves instantly stopped. Lyra slowly opened her eyes. Standing a few meters away was the silver-eyed man. His expression was colder than winter itself. The wolves whimpered. Impossible. These savage beasts... were afraid. "You've crossed a line," he said quietly. The ground trembled. The air grew heavy. One by one, the wolves lowered themselves in submission. The leader hesitated. The silver-eyed man's eyes flashed bright silver. "I said... leave." The wolf yelped before turning and fleeing into the forest. The others followed immediately. Within seconds, they were gone. Silence returned. Lyra stared at the mysterious stranger in disbelief. "You..." Before she could finish, dizziness overwhelmed her. The strange silver light appeared beneath her skin again. The man's calm expression vanished. He crossed the distance between them in an instant and caught her before she collapsed. His hands trembled. "No..." he whispered. "It's happening much sooner than I expected." Lyra looked into his eyes. "Who... are you?" He hesitated. For the first time, genuine emotion appeared on his face. "I made a promise to protect you." "Why?" "Because your enemies have finally found you." A cold breeze swept through the forest. Far away, hidden among the cliffs, a hooded figure watched everything through a magical pool of water. "So..." the figure smiled darkly. "The Wolf Queen has begun to awaken." The pool shattered. "Prepare the hunters." "This time... she won't escape." Far below, Lyra suddenly heard a faint voice inside her mind. Find the moon... before the blood moon rises. She looked around in confusion. "Did you hear that?" The silver-eyed man's face turned pale. "So it has begun..." Without another word, he lifted Lyra into his arms. "We have no time left." As he disappeared into the forest with her, neither of them noticed a pair of glowing golden eyes watching from the treetops. Another player had entered the game.
