Chapter 7: A door opens

Andrea George POV: The email had arrived in Andrea’s inbox like a godsend. She opened her email to read the details. A three-month contract as a private chef in the Hamptons. Fully paid housing, a salary that would help her edge closer to her dream, and most importantly _ an opportunity to work for an elite client who might open doors for her in the culinary world. She hadn’t hesitated to accept. She was grateful to her friend, Naomi, for showing her this mind blowing opportunity. She was to begin her contract the following day. So, she packed her bags and baggage and got all her personal stuff ready _ things she knew she would be needing for the period of three months. “Three months is not such a long time,” she thought to herself. The driver told her he would come pick her up early the next day, so she had to go to bed early with lots of anticipation of what the contract holds for you. Her night was filled with lucid dreams; of her being successful and living her dream life. She couldn't wait for these dreams to be fulfilled. Andrea woke up early the next morning. She was quite excited about starting her new job. She brushed her teeth, took her bath, dressed up and got all ready. Then, she waited patiently for the driver. Few minutes later, a sleek black car was seen parked in front of her apartment. The car reeked of so much luxury and wealth. She could imagine how wealthy her employer is. The driver blew the horn to notify his presence. She quickly made her way to the car, after properly locking her apartment. ___ Now, as she sat in the back of the sleek black car winding its way through the lush, tree-lined roads of Southampton, she felt the weight of what this opportunity meant. She was so close. Close to finally saving enough to break free from working under arrogant chefs like Marc. Close to finally making a name for herself. The car slowed, and Andrea’s breath hitched as the estate came into view. It wasn’t just a house. It was a masterpiece. A sprawling oceanfront mansion, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows that reflected the afternoon sun like diamonds. The architecture was sleek, modern, but with just enough classic touches to exude old-money elegance. The kind of house that only the ultra-rich could afford. The kind of house she had never imagined stepping foot in, let alone working in. The driver stopped in front of the grand entrance, where a man in a crisp suit was already waiting. The estate manager, Nicholas. Andrea stepped out of the car, adjusting her simple but professional attire. Confidence. That’s what she needed. "Miss George," Nicholas greeted, his tone polite but all business. "Welcome to the Southampton estate. I trust your trip was smooth?" "Yes, thank you," Andrea said, shaking his hand. Nicholas nodded. "Follow me. I will show you the kitchen and go over your responsibilities." Andrea fell into step beside him, barely able to take in everything as they passed through the grand entrance. Marble floors gleamed under high ceilings. Expensive artwork lined the walls. It was wealth on another level, wealth that most people could never comprehend. And yet, there was something… different about this house. It didn’t have the gaudy, overdone feel of the places she had catered before. This was lived-in. Tasteful. Private. As if whoever owned it preferred solitude over spectacle. "Your primary role is to prepare daily meals for the owner and any guests," Nicholas explained as they entered the kitchen. "Menus should be flexible, with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The owner prefers simple but refined cuisine. Nothing overly fussy." Andrea nodded, already making mental notes. "I understand. Will I be meeting the owner?" Nicholas hesitated for half a second before replying, "Eventually. He values his privacy. For now, focus on the food." Andrea frowned slightly but let it go. She found it kind of weird, for a man of his status to value privacy. ___ Michael Stone POV: Michael has decided to start his summer holiday that day. He had a very busy day at the office, so he arrived at the estate late that evening, the sky painted in deep purples and golds as the sun dipped below the horizon. The moment he stepped inside, he felt like it _ the difference. The house wasn’t just a property. It wasn’t just another acquisition. It was his. His escape. His refuge. He was so proud of himself: of all the properties and success he has acquired within a very short period of time. And yet, tonight, there was something new in the air. Something that smelled like freshly baked bread, garlic, and herbs. His brow furrowed as he followed the scent toward the kitchen. The lights were on. And standing at the stove, completely unaware of his presence, was… the kitchen staff from Auberge du Luxe. Michael stopped dead. “Hell no! She is the Andrea George that was employed?” He thought to himself. The shock was swift, sharp. Of all the chefs in the world, of all the people his staff could have hired _ it was her? He watched as she moved, her brow furrowed in concentration, tasting a sauce with the kind of precision that spoke of years of experience. She looked… different here. Less guarded. More herself. And she had no idea who he was. Michael’s fingers curled into a fist. He was sure she didn't see him at the restaurant that night _ so he thought. He didn't want her to know he was the owner of the mansion she worked in. He wanted to keep his identity a secret. He could walk away now. Keep the secret. Let her do her job without ever revealing himself. But something about that felt wrong. Because the longer he watched her, the more he knew: This wasn’t just a coincidence. This was fate. And fate always had a price.
