31. A Promise between brothers The moon is still high when Kye wakes. Vin is still, sleeping peacefully now. In the corner stands his dear brother- Aleric. Kye slides slowly from the bed so as to not disturb Vin. He pauses waiting for fury or at least a lecture from his brother. When Aleric stood silent, Kye offered a soft explanation: “She needed comfort after this evening. You were pretty hard on her.” Aleric sits in a chair by the window and looks out. “I know.” He rests his head in his hands. “You know I could not deny them. Our pack. The Kingdom. The council.
