Aleric wanted Vin to love him truly, not to just fear him. Fear was easy, but even now he could see the apprehension in Vin’s face as she walked towards him.
No, he needed something deeper than fear.
“Here.” Aleric forced his body to softness as he offered Vin a piece of bread with jam. What was is his mother had once said? The quickest way to the heart was through the stomach. “The jam is made of the berries picked from the gardens below.”
“Oh.” Vin was surprised. Her brown eyes darted from Aleric’s eyes to his hand before reaching to take the proffered bread.
Her face held the same sweet innocence of every human he had ever been with. Aleric’s heart pulled slightly. Why was love with humans so difficult? They were so easy to break, but he didn;t want a broken mate.
