Garret Morte, a 19-year-old young man who is a student at one of the most prestigious universities in his country. The rain was falling heavily on the roof, creating a soothing sound, but he could not appreciate the benefit. "Gods, I hate this stupid weather," Garret exclaimed, "It's mid-July for God's sake. Where's a storm coming from at this time of the year?" The weather had been acting abnormally for the past six months. Storms suddenly appearing in deserts, thawing the earth's poles. The scientists and the government had no way of explaining these phenomena and simply attributed it to the ever thinning ozone. It was perfectly normal to carry an umbrella on a sunny day as the weather could suddenly change. "And to add salt to the wound, I have to go to work today. For f**k sake, did it really have to rain today?" Garret was an only boy in a family of five. His father, Theron, was a government worker, his mother, Leah, was a nurse in another state. His older sister, Eva, was a senior at university and his younger sister, Claudia, was still in high school and lived with their parents. One might think, since he was the only boy, life was very relaxing. Far from the truth actually, as he had to work to pay his school fees as their parents only had enough to pay for two. He was working at a blacksmithing workshop while also balancing his studies. His older sister had vehemently rejected the idea, but she knew better than anyone how stubborn he was. On this particular day, something felt very different. He had keen senses which had saved his and his family's lives on several occasions. He knew better not to dismiss his doubts as heresy. Rumble…he could feel his room which was on the fourth floor shaking. "Dammit, my pants got ruined," Garret exclaimed as he looked at his pants in pure shock. Quite the contrary, it wasn't due to the ruined pants. In fact, he couldn't see them. "The weave has finally reached earth. Rejoice." A voice sounded in his head and suddenly a purple panel appeared in front of his eyes. {Name: Garret Morte Level: 0 Race Human Path: none Distinction: None Attributes: Strength:10 Agility:21 Health:20 Stamina:20 Mana:120 Magic:120} "Magic? As in magic in those fantastical places where everything is possible, but that thought was quickly discarded as an impossibility. His attention drawn to the window "My goodness, this is madness," Garret exclaimed as he looked from his room in the male dormitory. And it was, as he had exclaimed, madness, total madness. Moving with a jarring, uncoordinated gait, their shuffling feet dragging across the pavement and debris with a dry, scraping sound. Garret could see very well, but he had to rub his eyelids for what he was seeing was straight from his greatest nightmares. "You've got to be kidding me." Creatures that he knew from video games and movies were chasing humans. Zombies to be precise. But then something happened that scared the daylights out of him. A bee, nothing surprising about nature's pollinators, but this one was palm-sized, but the scare was yet to come. He could faintly see the bee as it was very fast. He only saw the headless figures of the humans and the zombies. After the bee then fed on the heads of its slain adversaries, it grew bigger. Its mandibles bigger, its legs becoming bigger, its wings more menacing. Garret knew for a fact that he would not survive a second if he met such a horrifying foe. But before even his mind would register the horror he had just witnessed. A low wet sound rumbled up from outside, a growl that wasn't animal or human, it was a guttural churning, like a clogged drain fighting to clear itself. Almost instinctively, Garret raced to the door, locking it entirely. As if the rusty old lock wasn't enough, he added almost all his belongings onto the door. The sound of knuckles hitting the door was a sickening pulpy sound like rotten fruit being mashed. From all his movies and novels, he knew that very soon the noise would attract more of the shambling horrors. He had to come up with a plan quickly, or he would just be a sitting duck. " Damn it, could I be any more damned?" And true to his horror, he could hear two more of them joining their comrade.
