CHAPTER 34: THE SECRET OF SELENE NIGHTSHADE Silence hung heavily over the ruined Hall of Forgotten Truths after the prophecy faded from sight. Dust drifted through the air as shattered crystal fragments glittered beneath the silver flames struggling to remain alive along the temple walls. The wolves stared at Aria with a mixture of hope and fear, their expressions mirroring the battle raging inside her heart. The words of the silver-eyed woman echoed endlessly in her mind: One heart will decide the fate of both worlds. Before anyone could speak, Selene’s spirit stepped toward her daughter. Though her form had grown fainter, the warmth in her silver eyes remained unchanged. “There isn’t much time left,” she said softly. “Varok has already begun breaking the final seals.” Aria swallowed hard. “Then tell me everything,” she pleaded. “No more secrets. Why was I hidden? Why did you leave me? Why does everyone believe I’m destined to become a monster?” Selene looked away for a brief moment before returning her gaze to Aria. “Because I made a choice that changed all of our lives.” The chamber grew quiet as Selene revealed the truth buried for decades. Years before Aria’s birth, Selene had discovered the prophecy of the Final Luna Queen hidden within the Moon Temple. She learned that a child carrying the purest Luna blood would eventually rise during a time of spiritual collapse. That child would possess the power to restore balance or destroy everything. Terrified by what others would do if they learned of the prophecy, Selene fled with Aria’s father to protect their unborn daughter. “I believed hiding you would give you a chance at an ordinary life,” Selene confessed, tears shimmering in her translucent eyes. “But Seraphine found out.” At the mention of her sister’s name, Seraphine lowered her gaze in silence. “She thought eliminating the bloodline was the only way to save the world.” Aria’s chest tightened painfully. The war. The lies. The fear. Everything had begun long before she was born. Kael’s expression darkened as Selene turned toward him. “And you,” she said quietly. “You carried a burden no one should have faced alone.” Aria looked between them in confusion. Kael closed his eyes briefly before speaking. “I was sent to kill your family.” The confession fell like a blade through the silence. “The Blood Hunters discovered your location,” he continued hoarsely. “I believed the Luna bloodline was dangerous. I believed ending it would prevent another war.” His voice broke as guilt flashed across his face. “But when I met your mother, everything changed. She showed me kindness when I deserved none. She trusted me when I had every intention of betraying her.” Selene offered him a sad smile. “You chose differently.” Kael’s amber eyes shifted toward Aria. “I helped your parents escape. But I wasn’t fast enough.” The mating bond pulsed with heartbreak and regret. Aria struggled to breathe beneath the weight of the truth. Before Aria could process the revelation, the temple shook violently once more. A deafening crash echoed through the chamber as part of the ceiling collapsed. Wolves scrambled to avoid falling debris while Lucien shouted warnings from across the room. “The temple is collapsing!” he cried. Black smoke poured through widening cracks in the walls as Varok’s laughter echoed from somewhere beyond the sacred halls. “Even now, the truth tears your world apart!” the Wraith Alpha thundered. Spirit creatures flooded the ruined corridors, their monstrous forms advancing toward the chamber. Seraphine immediately moved beside Aria. “Whatever happens between us after this,” she said, gripping her silver blades tightly, “we survive today first.” Darius and Elara shifted into their wolf forms without hesitation, joining the defensive line. For the first time since meeting, Hunters and wolves stood together against a common enemy. Aria stared at the chaos unfolding around her before turning back toward Selene’s fading spirit. “Tell me how to stop him,” she begged. Selene reached out, pressing her translucent hand over Aria’s heart. “You already know the answer.” Silver light spread between them. “Varok believes fear justifies control because fear is all he has known for centuries. The Luna Queens who fell before you made the same mistake. They chose fear over trust.” Aria remembered the visions she had witnessed, the queen who had only wanted peace before fear transformed her choices into chains. Tears streamed down her face as understanding settled inside her. “If I let fear decide for me,” she whispered, “I’ll become exactly what everyone expects.” Selene smiled proudly. “Then choose differently, my little moon.” Her form began fading into countless silver particles. “Choose love. Choose hope. Choose who you wish to be.” The last traces of Selene’s spirit disappeared just as another explosion shook the temple foundations. Aria wiped the tears from her cheeks and slowly rose to her feet. Silver energy ignited around her, not wild and destructive as before, but steady and controlled. The fear still existed inside her, but it no longer ruled her heart. Kael stepped beside her despite the poison threatening to bring him to his knees. Seraphine raised her blades. Darius and Elara stood ready to fight. Lucien clutched the surviving temple records against his chest. Beyond the shattered entrance, Varok’s shadow loomed larger as his army advanced through the collapsing halls. Aria looked toward the darkness and lifted her chin. “I’ve spent my whole life running from who I am,” she said firmly. “No more.” Silver flames erupted around her like moonlit fire. “If this prophecy belongs to me, then I’ll decide how it ends.” And with her allies at her side, the Final Luna Queen stepped forward to face the darkness waiting ahead.
