CHAPTER 37: THE LAST LIGHT OF RAVEN HILL The collapse of the Moon Temple forced everyone into motion. Ancient pillars crashed behind them while rivers of silver light spilled through widening fractures in the sacred floor. Wolves and Hunters retreated through the shattered corridors, fighting off spirit creatures desperate to prevent their escape. The Heart of Luna glowed brightly in Aria’s grasp, illuminating the path through the falling debris. The relic’s warmth spread through her body, strengthening her resolve even as grief settled heavily in her chest. The Moon Temple had stood for centuries, protecting the truth of the Luna bloodline, and now it was being reduced to rubble before her eyes. Lucien stumbled beside her, clutching the rescued crystal records against his chest. “We can’t lose these,” he said breathlessly. “The world needs to remember what truly happened.” Aria glanced back at the collapsing sanctuary one final time before turning away. Some things couldn’t be saved. But perhaps their lessons could. The survivors finally emerged into the cold night air above Raven Hill. The storm that had gathered over Pennsylvania had transformed into something unnatural. Black clouds churned violently across the sky while silver lightning flashed between them. Across the distant mountains, pillars of shadow pierced the heavens like enormous claws tearing through reality itself. Varok stepped out of the temple ruins moments later, untouched by the destruction surrounding him. He stood beneath the raging storm with his head tilted toward the heavens, his expression unreadable. “The final seals are breaking,” he said quietly. There was no triumph in his voice, only certainty. “Soon the spirit realm and the mortal world will become one.” Fear spread through the gathered wolves and Hunters as tremors shook the earth beneath their feet. Far beyond Raven Hill, monstrous howls echoed across Pennsylvania. Ancient things were awakening. Kael swayed beside Aria before suddenly dropping to one knee. The poison that had slowed beneath the Heart of Luna’s healing surged through him once more, dark veins spreading farther across his skin. Aria immediately knelt beside him, panic tightening around her heart. Through the mating bond, she felt his exhaustion and pain more clearly than ever before. “Kael,” she whispered, her hands trembling as she touched his face. His amber eyes met hers despite the agony threatening to consume him. “You have to keep going,” he said hoarsely. “The prophecy…” Aria shook her head fiercely. “I don’t care about the prophecy right now.” Tears filled her eyes. “I care about you.” A faint smile touched Kael’s lips. “That’s exactly why you’ll succeed where the others failed.” His hand closed weakly around hers. “You still choose people over power.” The bond between them pulsed with fierce love, threatening to overwhelm her completely. Before Aria could respond, a sudden scream shattered the fragile moment. One of the younger wolves collapsed onto the frozen ground, clutching his head in agony. Others quickly followed. Hunters staggered as shadows flickered across their eyes. Lucien dropped the crystal records as he gripped a nearby tree for support. “What’s happening?” Elara shouted. Varok’s gaze remained fixed on the storm overhead. “The barriers are weakening,” he answered grimly. “The spirit realm is bleeding into your world.” Aria watched in horror as ghostly figures appeared among the trees surrounding Raven Hill. Transparent wolves. Fallen warriors. Ancient spirits wandering between life and death. One spirit paused before Darius, staring at him with familiar eyes before disappearing into the darkness. Darius froze. “That was…” His voice broke. “My father.” Silence followed. The dead were crossing over. Varok slowly turned toward Aria, the fury that had defined him replaced by something far more dangerous. Sadness. “Do you see now?” he asked quietly. “This world was broken long before either of us were born.” His glowing eyes searched hers. “I wanted justice. Then justice became revenge. Revenge became hatred.” He looked toward the wandering spirits moving through the forest. “And hatred destroyed everything I once loved.” Aria’s chest tightened painfully. For the first time, she understood the loneliness hidden beneath his anger. Centuries of betrayal had turned a guardian into a monster. Yet even now, part of the man he had once been remained. “It doesn’t have to end this way,” she said softly. Varok’s expression hardened once more. “Perhaps not.” He looked toward the distant mountains where enormous cracks of silver light split the sky apart. “But the choice is no longer mine alone.” The earth shook with unprecedented force as a deafening roar echoed from every direction at once. Trees snapped. Wolves stumbled. The storm above Raven Hill twisted violently before opening like a wound across the heavens. Through the tear in reality, Aria glimpsed an endless sea of silver and shadow stretching beyond imagination. The spirit realm had begun to merge with the mortal world. Ancient creatures emerged along the horizon while distant pack territories vanished beneath waves of unnatural energy. Fear threatened to claw its way back into Aria’s heart. But when she looked around, she saw Kael fighting to remain conscious. Elara helping injured Hunters to their feet. Darius standing guard beside Lucien. Seraphine refusing to retreat despite the danger. She tightened her grip around the Heart of Luna as its silver light blazed brighter than ever before. The Final Luna Queen had finally reached the point of no return. The war for both worlds had begun.
