CHAPTER 33: SHADOWS WITHIN THE TEMPLE The Hall of Forgotten Truths descended into chaos as darkness poured through the cracks in the shattered walls. The silver flames that had illuminated the Moon Temple moments ago flickered violently, struggling against the invading shadow. Varok emerged from the black mist like a nightmare given form, his towering figure radiating ancient power and fury. Behind him, monstrous spirit creatures slithered from the darkness, their glowing eyes fixed on Aria. Wolves shifted instantly, forming a protective circle around her while Seraphine raised her silver blades without hesitation. Lucien hurried toward the remaining crystal pillars, desperately trying to preserve the temple’s records before they were destroyed. At the center of it all, Selene’s spirit remained calm despite the destruction surrounding them. Her silver gaze settled on Aria. “You must not allow fear to control you,” she warned softly. “That is exactly what he wants.” Varok’s laughter echoed throughout the chamber as his burning eyes fixed on Aria. “Look around you, Daughter of Chains,” he thundered. “This is the legacy of your bloodline. Temples reduced to ruins. Spirits imprisoned beneath the earth. Endless war in the name of peace.” Aria clenched her fists as silver energy crackled around her fingertips. “You don’t know who I am,” she shouted back. The Wraith Alpha tilted his head, almost pitying her. “No?” His clawed hand swept toward the crystal fragments scattered across the floor. Instantly, the broken memories surrounding them rose into the air. Aria watched in horror as images replayed themselves before everyone. Luna Queens standing over kneeling wolves. Silver chains tightening around loyal subjects. Spirit guardians screaming as they were dragged into darkness. “You carry their blood,” Varok said coldly. “Sooner or later, you will make the same choices.” Doubt twisted painfully inside Aria’s chest. Before Varok could advance further, Kael stepped forward despite the poison weakening his body. His amber eyes blazed with determination as he placed himself between Aria and the Wraith Alpha. “Then she’ll prove you wrong,” he growled. Varok studied him with amusement. “You can barely stand, Alpha.” Kael’s breathing was uneven, and black veins spread farther along his neck, but his voice never wavered. “Maybe,” he admitted. “But I’ve spent my entire life making terrible choices. I know what fear can do to a person.” His gaze shifted briefly toward Aria. “And I know she isn’t her ancestors.” The mating bond surged between them, carrying raw emotion that words couldn’t fully express. Love. Faith. Hope. Aria’s eyes filled with tears as she realized Kael still believed in her, even when she struggled to believe in herself. A deafening roar interrupted the moment as the spirit creatures launched their attack. Wolves collided with shadow beasts in violent bursts of claws and fangs. Seraphine fought with ruthless precision, her enchanted blades cutting through black smoke as she barked orders to the remaining Hunters. Elara shifted into her wolf form and threw herself into battle beside Darius, refusing to retreat despite the overwhelming odds. Lucien managed to preserve several crystal memories before one of the creatures lunged toward him. Aria reacted instinctively. Silver light exploded from her body, forming protective barriers around her allies. The chamber trembled beneath the force of her power. Spirit creatures dissolved wherever the silver energy touched them. Yet with every pulse of power she released, the kneeling visions from Raven Hill resurfaced in her mind. Was she protecting them… or controlling them? The fear nearly shattered her concentration. Selene’s spirit appeared beside her daughter as chaos raged around them. “Listen to me,” she urged. “The power inside you reflects the heart guiding it.” Aria’s breathing quickened. “What if Varok is right?” she whispered. “What if I’m destined to become one of them?” Selene reached out, her translucent hand brushing against Aria’s cheek. “Destiny is only a path,” she said gently. “Choice determines where it leads.” Tears slipped down Aria’s face. She had spent so long searching for certainty that she’d forgotten the one truth her mother had always tried to teach her. She wasn’t bound by the sins of the past. She wasn’t powerless against fear. The silver energy surrounding her softened, no longer fueled by anger or desperation but by something stronger. Compassion. Determination. Love. Varok noticed the change immediately. His expression darkened as he stepped toward her through the battlefield. “You still cling to hope,” he said bitterly. “Then let us see how long it survives.” Raising both hands toward the ceiling, the Wraith Alpha unleashed a devastating surge of shadow that shattered the remaining crystal pillars throughout the Hall of Forgotten Truths. Thousands of ancient memories exploded into the air like falling stars before converging into one terrifying vision above the chamber. Wolves screamed. Spirits burned. Luna Queens wept beneath blood-red moons. At the center of the nightmare stood a silver-eyed woman wearing a crown of moonstone. She turned slowly toward Aria. “The Final Choice approaches,” the woman whispered. “And when it comes, one heart will decide the fate of both worlds.” As the vision faded, silence fell over the ruined temple. Aria stared upward, her pulse racing. Somewhere beyond the collapsing walls, the prophecy had already begun. And for the first time, she understood that the greatest battle awaiting her was not against Varok… but against the fear hidden within her own heart.
