CHAPTER 31: THE MOON TEMPLE The tremors continued long after the distant roars faded. Raven Hill shook beneath Aria’s feet as silver cracks spread across the frozen earth like lightning trapped underground. Wolves exchanged fearful glances while the storm above darkened into an unnatural shade of black. Kael struggled to remain standing beside her, his face pale from the poison consuming his body. Every pulse of pain he felt echoed through their mating bond, making Aria’s chest ache. Lucien stared toward the distant mountains with growing dread. “The seals are breaking faster than expected,” he said. “If we don’t reach the Moon Temple soon, the spirits imprisoned beneath Pennsylvania will awaken completely.” Seraphine’s expression hardened. “Then we move now.” The suggestion immediately drew growls from several wolves. No one trusted the Hunter leader, but time was running out. Another violent tremor shook the clearing, and somewhere beyond the forest, a terrifying roar echoed once more. Even Varok looked toward the horizon with interest. Aria knelt beside Kael and placed a trembling hand against his cheek. His skin felt cold. Too cold. “You need treatment,” she whispered. Kael managed a weak smile. “And you need answers.” His amber eyes locked onto hers. “The Moon Temple is the only place left that can help you understand what’s happening.” Aria hated hearing the weakness in his voice. The man who had always seemed invincible now looked as though he was fighting to stay conscious. The mating bond pulsed again, flooding her with fear and determination. She wasn’t ready to lose him. Not after everything they had survived together. As if sensing her thoughts, Kael squeezed her hand. “Don’t let my condition distract you from what matters.” “You matter,” she replied instantly. For a brief moment, neither of them looked away. The journey began before sunrise. Guided by ancient maps hidden within Lucien’s records, the group traveled through forgotten sections of Pennsylvania untouched by human civilization. Massive forests stretched endlessly around them while ancient stone markers emerged from the earth at regular intervals. Aria noticed strange symbols carved into every marker. Whenever she touched them, faint silver light flickered beneath the stone. The deeper they traveled, the stronger her visions became. She saw flashes of Luna Queens walking these same paths centuries ago. She saw warriors kneeling beneath moonlit skies. She saw blood staining sacred temple floors. Each vision lasted only seconds, but together they painted a picture of a history far more complicated than the stories she had been told. As night fell, the group reached a hidden valley surrounded by towering cliffs. At its center stood an enormous stone gateway covered in glowing silver runes. The moment Aria stepped into the valley, the air itself seemed to change. Ancient energy flowed through the ground beneath her feet. The gateway pulsed once. Then again. The silver runes brightened until the entire structure illuminated the darkness. Every wolf stopped moving. Even Seraphine appeared stunned. “Impossible,” she whispered. Lucien’s eyes filled with awe. “The Moon Temple.” Aria stared at the gateway, unable to breathe. Something deep inside her recognized the place immediately. It felt familiar. Like coming home after being away her entire life. Before anyone could approach, a deafening roar erupted behind them. The ground exploded as a massive spirit creature emerged from the forest. Standing nearly twenty feet tall, the beast resembled a wolf formed entirely from black smoke and silver fire. Its glowing eyes locked onto Aria instantly. Wolves shifted into battle positions while panic spread through the group. “Protect the Luna!” Darius shouted. The creature lunged forward, destroying trees with a single swipe of its claws. Aria felt raw power surge through her veins. Instinct took over. Silver energy exploded from her body, forming a barrier between the spirit beast and her companions. The collision shook the valley. For the first time, Aria didn’t fight the power. She embraced it. The beast howled in pain as silver light engulfed its body. Ancient symbols appeared across Aria’s skin while the barrier expanded around the group. Everyone stared in shock. Kael watched with pride despite the pain visible in his eyes. The creature staggered backward before collapsing into black mist. Silence followed. The gateway behind Aria suddenly began opening on its own. Massive stone doors slowly separated, revealing a staircase descending deep beneath the earth. A wave of ancient energy rushed outward. Aria’s heart pounded. The visions. The prophecy. The truth about the Luna bloodline. Everything she had been searching for waited below. As the others gathered around her, she took a deep breath and stared into the darkness beyond the temple entrance. Somewhere inside, the answers she desperately needed were waiting. And deep within the shadows of the Moon Temple, something else was waiting for her too.
