I didn't stop to think.
I just pushed it open and stepped outside. Once I was far enough from the building, I reached for my phone, unlocking it quickly and opening Uber.
My fingers moved faster as I set the pickup location, my eyes flicking up briefly to check my surroundings. When I was sure none of them were in sight, I entered the nearest hospital as my destination and confirmed the ride.
A car matched.
But it was three minutes away.
Too long.
I shifted slightly, stepping further down the sidewalk, putting more distance between myself and the store. My gaze flicked behind me once, then again.
Still nothing.
But that didn't mean they wouldn't notice.
Any moment now, they would realize I hadn't come out the front.
