Chapter 2: Elimination (Part VII)

793 Words
I was programmed to endure the cases, killing anyone and everyone inside my head without mercy or guilt, with my emotions preventing me from looking at the person’s being without conscience. We were also implanted with memories of tortured survivors, training us to every inhumane act of violence possible. The implants almost repeatedly killed me again and again due to the limit of my physical state as a child, feeling each and every kind of pain written inside a person’s body… Records even show the wavelength of my brain at a tremendous pace of pressure. Serums were injected in our bodies repetitively to check our vital signs, and if we ever got into on a rampage, they would just sedate us with further injections, making us lose track of our senses. Some of the subjects in the second phase died from the overdose too... I became a nobody, with my father’s plans destroying the very being that I was used to. The family that I once had turned to rubble and burned to ashes from an instant. For what reason? Up to now I’m filled with uncertainties. Little did I know that my family had a lot to do with the creation of the drug itself, it was a coordinated research deviated by the government in secret. My parents knew the risk of revealing such inconsistencies, while we as the children suffered with our lives on the line. My parents died carrying their shame while my brother remained missing after all these years. I was the only one left standing… Remembering every single bit of detail they’ve left except for what our name truly is… As the Project was buried and the people behind it murdered, I was the only remaining testament of the project, bound to be forsaken if not forgotten. That is when the NBI found me, inside a capsule on a chamber hidden under the ruins of the burnt down facility. Killing me would’ve been the best option but for the sake of security and further research, they decided to let me live since I was just a child who didn’t know anything… Due to rumors of other survivors, our butler concealed his identity and chose to become my Psychiatrist, shouldering the family’s assets under the name of Pablo Corazon for my personal use. It’s also the reason why I am able to move around and buy stuff freely without restrictions since our roots dig deep in this country’s economy. “Why? Why does it have to be me?” I kept on asking myself, why should I be the one to carry the sins of the people responsible for all of these? It’s a question that remains unanswered, yet I am willing to spend the rest of my life knowing the reason behind all of the mess they’ve created. My mind suddenly snapped out of its pace and returned back to normal. “I think I already know where this case is going…” I said to Carlos gaining myself a bit of anger over this forsaken file that I’ve scavenged. “Then I guess you should take a break and rest for a while. It would be troublesome if you engage with fatigue tomorrow.” I stopped for a moment and nodded to his suggestion. “I’ll be going then. In the meantime keep these files in case we need them again.” “Sure, I’ll keep in touch with you.” I left the place borrowing his minivan and went back to the NBI building. I went inside the parking lot entrance and placed the keys of the car on the lockers near the front entrance. I got myself a cup of coffee and descended to the old elevator quietly without a single soul seeing me pass by, leading me to the crypt. With my eyes almost falling due to exhaustion, I immediately removed the mask that I have along with the jacket and rinsed my face for some residues before sitting on my dental chair. I started settling my mind over the things I’m about to do tomorrow morning with this so-called assistant of mine. She’s just new to this case so she’ll be more of a nuisance to me at the moment. I still can’t personally rate her skills on my chart, making it hard for me to know her pro’s and con’s on the field. Having a bias call on her work thanks to her dad and Galvez himself, she should be worthy of her position, or else I’ll be sending her to another department. Though I shouldn’t be pessimistic, this is the first time I’ve encountered someone like her. Having the face of a woman but the curiosity and the wits of a man, her independent nature is impressive. If only I can make good use of that during some encounters, it would surely be an asset to this case. (End of Chapter)
