Recruiting

1044 Words
With plans for training made, however vague as it was at the moment, I parted from the others to search for my other classmates, and somehow convince them into at least cooperating with us commoners. Going by what Terranium had said, as well as their reaction to her declaration to not teach us, it would be reasonable as to say that they should be willing to help us out. While I may not know exactly what about them would make them out to be troublemakers, surely they had to be petty situations, especially if I consider how egotistical and arrogant nobles are in this world.  Since we were in a self-study session at the moment, I decided to stop by the library first, hoping that at least one of my classmates would be there, be it a noble or a crossbreed. Upon arriving, I found myself in an extremely large building, one that was much bigger than the library on my college campus in my previous life. One look, and I had a feeling that I will easily get lost if I just wander around idly, especially if I don't find a single one of my classmates. I turned to the reception desk, thinking that it was a good idea to get a map of the whole place first. "Excuse me. Is there a map for this library?" I asked the person crouching under the desk.  "Hm? Oh yes, it's-" The person stopped herself as she got up. Upon getting a better look at her, I also was taken aback by the person before me, for she just happened to be one of my classmates. Aside from the school uniform, this ravenette girl with black eyes also had on a black cloak over her person, with a pin that read 'librarian' on it, and a pair of glasses on her face. "You? You work here?" I asked. The noble girl avoided eye contact with me at my question, before handing me a pamphlet that was on the desk. "Here's the map," she softly spoke. "I must say, I did not expect seeing a commoner in the library. I didn't think you can read." "While I am slightly offended by that statement, I am not here to borrow a book," I said, lowering the paper. "Are any of our other classmates here? I need to speak with all of you." "None of the crossbreeds are, as far as I'm aware. As for nobles, I remember two others had entered. I could tell you where they are, but even if I did, they won't cooperate with... whatever it is you wish to speak with them about." "Because I'm a commoner? Right now, this is not about ranks. I don't know about you, but whether the others like it or not, the moment they were placed in Class F, they might as well be on our level anyway, in the eyes of others. If they don't want to be treated as such, they have to cooperate with us, commoners." “I understand that, but that’s not why I’m saying they won’t cooperate.”  Those words confused me. “Then what do you mean?”  “Well… it’s about the rumors Professor Terranium spoke of. Out of everyone in class, those two are especially bad. Lilith Vonroe, daughter of an baron, specializes in Poison Magic, and there were many circumstances where she had poisoned people. Some came close to death because of her. Because of her, her family, used to be duke ranks, got demoted to baron rank. As for Felix Modalien, son of a viscount, he specializes in Earth Magic. Only…”  “Only what?”  “You see, while his father is a viscount, his mother is a commoner, and his father’s concubine. Furthermore, she uses Water Magic. They say it may be because of his mixed blood, but Felix’s Earth Magic, which is supposed to specialize in defense, is very different than it should be, as it is more like mud. Literally speaking. Because of that, he often pulls pranks on people with his magic, and never got along with others… So to say, out of all the nobles in our class, those two are the most troublesome ones here.” I widened my eyes at this in surprise. Not at the information of two of our classmates, per say, but more on the details of them. “You are very knowledgeable of those two, aren’t you?”  The librarian flinched when I said that and fiddle with her fingers. “W-Well, I’m a noble. I don’t know about commoners such as you, but it is very normal to gain knowledge on other noble children to know who your friends and enemies are.”  “I see…” I placed a finger on my chin in thought. If she knew much about them, then maybe she can help me with the rest of our classmates. At least, she could tell me important things about them, specifically their magic. “Is there any chance you can give me a list of our other classmates? Not much, just their names, appearance, and the magic they use. If you can also write down what it is about them that makes them infamous, that would be great, too.”  The girl seemed visibly surprised when I made that request, much to my confusion. “You… still want me to help?”  “Well, yeah. I need to know who I’m asking to join us in our training for that mock exam, after all. The more information I have on them, the better. Besides you’re practically already helping me with two of our many noble classmates. Or is asking for information on the rest too much?”  “Oh, no no! I didn’t say that. I’ll be happy to help,” she said. “I’ll have the list ready shortly. If you still want to try your luck with Lilith and Felix, I won’t stop you. But I do advise you to be careful.”  “Thanks a lot. By the way, I don’t think I ever got your name. I’m Levi Caribbean.”  The girl smiled softly at my intro. “Nice to meet you. I’m Dora Manichrome.”
