Day of the Exam

1420 Words
A few days passed since then. Within those few days, everyone has shown some form of improvements from their training, even the human nobles. At first, they did not think there was anything much to learn from me, but when I gave them some ideas on how they may use their magic, they became interested, and practiced at least turning my thoughts into reality, in which they succeeded into doing. For the crossbreeds, after figuring out the trick to using their power, Philia and Bruce finally managed to use their magic, though only to an extent. Just the fact that they were finally able to control our use their magic, though, brought the pair much joy. For Taurus, he was quite skeptical about my training schedule for him, for I had him strap some practice weapons on him and practice on fighting with them while switching them in the middle of combat. Some time into his training, to constantly having him use his dimensional storage magic to store and remove various objects, the guy finally caught on to how his magic can be used in combat and seemed grateful for the discovery, though he was being quite tsundere about it. As for the commoners, with my and Mindy's assistance, as well as the nobles' frequent advises here and there, they managed to reach a better potential in magic. Not only that, but with the crossbreeds' assistance, especially Taurus, they also got better in fighting with weapons. Some got creative as they trained, and managed to add their magic into their battle, like Leroy in adding his Fire Magic to his punches, literally speaking, or Shaun using his Wind Magic to get some extra boost in his movements. I found it amazing how they managed to think of doing such a thing, when I realized that as commoners, they were practically free to train their magic however they liked as they grew up, not like nobles who were trained by professionals. Magic and combat improvements were not the only thing that came out from all that training, as everyone also started to form some bonds with one another. One certain female noble, however, seemed to be heavily disliking the sort of bond growing for her and one certain other, as proven when said female noble did not hold back at all when testing her poison and antidotes on me… Oh, how I shudder each time I remember such a thing… My only saving grace of the memory was the fact that I somehow got Dora to join me in being Lilith’s test subject. After all, things tend to be less scary if one was in a group instead of being alone. As time passed, it was finally the day of the mock exam. All of us in Class F stood in the training ground, where all the other classes of our year had gathered. One look at our class, though, and there were many glares, sneers, and judging expressions from everyone. "Well, would you look at that over there." "Class Failure? Seriously?" "I'm real surprised they have the guts to even bother coming here." "You could say that again. Then again, that just means it'll be time for the usual 'ritual'." "Yeah. No way are we going to take the exam with those Failures." As one can clearly see, many students in the other classes were looking down on us of Class F. Even went as far as to instantly call us 'Failures', as that word did start with the letter 'f'. And of course, no one in my class were happy being called that. "Why those people..." Leroy muttered with a clenched fist. "Relax. We'll show them," Taurus said. And coming from him, that was definitely saying something. "How is your appetite, Sheera?" Kyle asked. "It's all good for now. Though I could use a bite to distract myself from these people," the shrew crossbreed answered. "I don't blame you," Bruce agreed, also wanting to do something to distract himself from the mutters and whispers. "Me too," Philia said, feeling the same for the stares. "Can't even get some shut eye from all their muttering," Dylan said with a light yawn. "These people better not try anything on you, Lilith. If they do, you can count on me to deal judgement on them," Ethan assured his fiance. "This may be one of the few times I greatly appreciate the sentiment," Lilith allowed. I felt a nudge on my arm and turned to see Mindy looking at one direction. "She's here, too," she whispered. It did not take a genius to know who she meant by 'she', especially with the glare she had on her face, and the tone she used when referring to the person. I carefully glanced at the direction she was staring and saw Leia at a distance with her class, who unlike the other classes, were all keeping to themselves. Though there were some who did cast disgusted glances at us. "Don't worry, milady. We will show her who is true," my harpy friend then whispered to me. I felt a relieved smile form on my face when I heard that. Even with all the sneers being casted toward us, Mindy's concern about me remains the same as always. "Yeah. Not just me, though," I whispered back, glancing at our classmates, who glared back at the other students. "All of us here will prove we're not failures. That our class letter means something else entirely." "Right, milady." Just then, Dora looked up and saw some thing that caught her full attention. "The headmaster is here." At that, we all turned to the door and saw the head of our academy had entered the training ground, with many professors, including Terranium. "Welcome, one and all," he spoke. "I am sure many of you know the reason why you are called here, but to those of you who did not know for whatever reason, today is the day we will be holding your mock exam. The test is quite simple. After this meeting, you will all be taken to the entrance of the academy, where carriages will await each class. You are to board them to be taken to Grandule Woods, specifically to your designated site. In your base, there will be five flags, each representing your class. You are to protect your flags, while at the same time take the other classes' flags and bring them back to your post. There are two ways your class will be removed from the exam; either you lose all your flags to the other classes or all your classmates have been taken out. This exam is a free-for-all, but under no circumstances will you be allowed to kill anyone. Doing so will result in disqualification for yourself. The exam will end either when the first class gathers five other flags to their post, or with the last class standing. Your class grade will be calculated based on final results and performance. Now then, if there are no questions concerning the exam, your homeroom teachers will lead you to the entrance hall. I wish everyone good luck." "All right, now! We'll be going at it in alphabetical order! Class A, where are you~?" called Professor Hazelaye. At his call, Leia and her class went with him to the entrance hall. As they left, my replacement glanced back at me for a brief moment, before leaving the training ground. "All right! Not long now until the big exam!" Tem exclaimed. "I can't wait to show results of our training," Austin stated. "I'm feeling kind of nervous now..." Belle uttered out. "Same here..." Flora agreed, sensing a small, skunky release wanting to be let out in anxiety. "Don't say that. Not after all that training we did," Hailey told the pair. "Yeah, guys. You'll do fine," Felix assured. "They're right," I spoke. "We spent all our time these past few days training for this. Mindy and I know better than anyone- No... You all should know better than anyone how much you've grown. No matter what happens next, do not let anyone say otherwise. We are not a bunch of 'failures'; we are something better than 'failures'. And this mock exam will prove that." Everyone looked at me with smirks and smiles on their faces, feeling encouraged from my small speech. "Class F. With me," Terranium called. At her summon, we all walked towards her, and towards the start of our exam.
