With the crossbreeds now on our side, I proceeded to search for the remaining classmates, who were all human nobles. Lilith was with me to help search, while Sheera took our new recruits to the commoners’ dorm to get them started on their training. Either that, or to fill her stomach, maybe both.
“If memory serves me right, with the exception of Dora, who is still working in the library, the rest of our classmates consist of three nobles,” I said to Lilith. “You wouldn’t happen to know them and where they would be, would you?”
“Only one of them,” she answered. “And I truly must say, I am quite impressed. I did not think you are able to gather all our classmates within a day, especially for a commoner.”
“Save that for after we actually get them to join. Though I have to admit, I am just as surprised. I kind of imagined it being harder to convince you guys to join.”
“Well, if you were to consider our wants and needs, our situation in our school life, it would actually make some sense. Despite how hard the entrance exam was, especially with Edward Anberibca as our examiner in the practicals, here we are, being told that the exam did not truly matter much, that we only got lucky on that exam, and truly don’t belong here. All because we got placed in Class F, the worst class in Flammel Royal Academy.”
“You say that, but didn’t you join so you can see results in your antidote spells to various poison?” I asked in recollection.
“I see you are one who keeps your promise. I am still looking forward to testing the antidotes and my poison on you,” Lilith said, causing me to shiver in slight fright.
“G-… Go easy on me, please… Anyway, you said you know something about one of them. Where do you think that person is at?”
“His name is Ethan Hazard, son of a viscount. His family specializes in a certain version of Dark Magic known as Curse Magic.”
When I heard that, I flinched and froze, dumbfounded to know that someone with such a dangerous magic is in our class. Even without memories from my previous life, I had read plenty of books about Curse Magic... and they were far from good. “Please tell me he is not as dangerous as his magic,” I pleaded, hesitantly resuming my walk.
“You’ve nothing to worry about. Like me, he does not use his magic with bad intentions. However, simply because of his lineage, his family’s history, he was still seen as an outsider. Any accidents that occur to people he was acquainted to, or whenever he was around, he gets blamed for. All because of his magic that many fear. It's so bad, many people call him the Accursed Hazard.”
I started feeling bad for the boy upon hearing that. All because of his magic, he practically got labeled as ‘evil’ to many, quite like me to my family.
“Because of the discrimination towards him, he is often in his room or some other dark and quiet place to do his curse research. Considering how school is still in session, I imagine he is in his room in the low-class dorm,” Lilith continued.
“You seem quite sure about this guy,” I noticed.
“Is it not normal for fiances to know their other half?”
I immediately halted at that question. “… Come again?”
“Ethan is my fiance. Was that never told?”
“Uh, of course it was never told!” I exclaimed. “Fiance?! Like, ‘you will be married in the future’ sort?! That fiance?”
“Is there a commoner definition of the word?” Lilith simple asked back.
I could only just stare before shaking myself out of my stupor. “Well… I did not expect that,” I said, referring to how arranged marriage was a real thing here in this world.
“I suppose a commoner would not have their future partners arranged ahead of time,” Lilith said, as though hearing my thoughts. “Well, I suppose you and the others will have a lot to learn in the world of nobles. From what I heard, the events we will be attending as students of this academy are not only combat types. There are etiquettes to learn as well. Considering how prestigious this academy is said to be, you can expect exams judging you on how you act, especially as nobles.
“I guess that’s to be expected from royals…” I muttered in understanding. “Well, we can worry about that after the mock exam. Right now, we have your fiance to find.”
******
Some time later, Lilith had led me to the low-class nobles’ dormitory. As one would expect, since school was still in session, the place was empty of students. There was the warden there, but she did not seem to mind the fact that we were supposedly skipping class. Either that, or she assumed our class was making early preparations for the mock exam, which she would not necessarily be wrong then.
“So, your fiance’s room is 156?” I asked, following Lilith down the hall to the designated room.
“That’s right,” she confirmed. “Well, even if you don’t know the number, I’m sure you can easily tell which door is his.”
Those words made me worry even more, but I chose to remain silent. Then again, we were going to meet the boy who was heavily misunderstood by others. Surely, his door did not get decorated in black and red, or have some kind of demon ritual going on.
… I see speaking or thinking of Ethan is nothing than some taboo… For when we arrived in front of his room, while the rest of the hall was clean, with a brown wooden floor, beige walls, and light brown doors with silver handles, the door leading to Ethan’s room was scorched black, with the walls and hinges worn. I also noticed signs of scratches on both the door and parts of the wall, as well as some skull marks and some horrible insults written there, such as ‘die’ or ‘demon’.
What especially got to me though… was the room number, hung above the door. What should’ve been read as ‘156’… got turned into a crude way of writing ‘666’.
A part of me hoped that this was not Ethan’s way of redecorating his part of the dorm, as I truly did not want to believe Lilith is engaged to some psycho, not did I want to think that we have such a psycho in our class. If anything, though, it almost makes me wish the ‘F’ for our class really did stand for ‘failing’ and not a word that will describe us as RIP.
“Shouldn’t you knock on the door?” Lilith asked me, too my surprise.
“Hmm?! Why me?!” I whispered.
“You’re the one recruiting him. I believe it is right for you to take initiative.”
“But you are his fiance. I am very sure he will feel more comfortable if his fiance, or anyone he knows so well, speaks with him first.”
It was silent when I whispered that, with Lilith only staring at me. Whether or not she was thinking about it, I was not sure, but I really do hope she take the initiative. Note: I may be mentally older, but even adults get easily scared of things.
“… I suppose,” Lilith said, to my relief. “However, in exchange, I request that you allow me to test at least three antidote spells on you after.”
Before I could even question her on the condition, the noble knocked on the door.
“… Who is it?” came a deep, eerie sounding voice, sending bad chills down my spine.
“It’s me, Ethan. Lilith,” she called.
A few seconds of nothingness later, loud sound of rummaging was heard in the room, followed by some crashes, a couple yelps in pain, and some spraying. Before I knew it, the door was slammed open, revealing a teenage boy with light green hair and sparkling red eyes standing there, wearing a butler’s outfit.
“My dear flower Lily~! How I have long awaited for our couple time~" he sang out.
I was completely dumbfounded by the sight of this person, more than when I was listening to Lilith's information on the guy we were looking for. Who the heck was this person who stood in her fiance's room?!
