As soon as everyone recovered from their encounter with Lilith and Felix, I introduced the pair and Sheera to them, the latter who was chowing down on a bowl of cream stew I made for lunch for everyone.
"Ahem... Now that everyone has recovered, allow me to formerly introduce three of our many classmates who will be joining us on our training. Meet Lilith Vonroe, Felix Modalien, and Sheera Shrew," I spoke.
"Oh... So they were speaking the truth about being sent by you..." Leroy said, taking a bite of a chicken meat.
"That's what we tried to tell you," Felix said, also taking a sip of the stew. "Mmm. This white stew is really good. Levi, you're quite the chef."
Sheera nodded in agreement to those words, as she downed the rest of her stew. "I'll say. I want seconds!"
"All right," I said, taking her bowl to refill.
"If introduction is done, I believe now is the time to speak of the matter at hand," Lilith spoke. "We agreed to join on your training, but from what I saw... No, before I even make any assumptions, what were you guys even doing back there? From what I saw, you were just sitting in a circle, holding each other's hands."
"I was helping them awaken to the true potential of their magic power," Mindy answered then. "To be exact, I was helping them get a better feel of their magic."
"Get a better feel of their magic?" Felix repeated in a questioned tone.
"You know how commoners like us have less magic power than nobles like you, right?" Azalea asked. "Some of us either cope with the small amount, while the rest do what we can to improve on our magic, based on its affinity."
"Though since we were doing it all without any professional help, it was hard to tell if we did get a good grasp of how our magic work," Austin added. "The method Mindy was doing with her magic, having us do the same to the person next to us, it was to help us get a good grasp of how much magic we contain, and how to properly control it."
That last part intrigued two of the three nobles. "'Properly control it'?" Felix repeated.
"Although commoners have less magic than nobles, it is not considerably small, per say," Mindy answered. "It is more that they only instinctively grasped a portion of the full amount of mana they truly have, under the assumption that it was all they do have. As they never received proper training like nobles would, their understanding on magic can be quite limited."
"So you say, except not all nobles get such training," Lilith said then. "Rather that say we 'don't', it would be more that we have the option to not take such course."
"True as it may be, you still get a sort of professional help," I said, handing Sheera her awaited stew. "Lilith, I'm sure you don't just test whatever poison you find in the woods so nilly-willy, nor just look for an animal or a bug that contains venom in them. And I know for sure you need to have a full basic understanding of poison in general first before even coming up with any sort of cure for them."
The commoners and Felix looked at me in confusion when I said that, while Mindy and Lilith were both neutral, already catching on to what I mean. Sheera was just filling her stomach, but from the expression she had, she also had a feeling what I was referring to.
"Um... If a noble is not getting help in understanding their magic from another person, how else would they learn so well?" Hailey asked.
"From books. Not story books, but textbooks and history books, books that contain knowledge of various things, one of them being poison. There is so much one can learn from experience alone, especially in making accurate cures for various poison," I answered.
"Indeed, as Levi said. I had been learning much of poison from books," Lilith confirmed. "However, the information on some is quite vague. Likewise, there are also books on herbs and their benefits, but not much on what poison they neutralize, if any at all. Though I can see which ones counteract against each other, I was not sure how effective one was against the other, as poison usually gets neutralized by priests or those wielding holy magic."
"Is that why you poisoned and healed us up?" Shaun questioned, recalling their meeting earlier.
"I had tested the poison on noble children- city children- who are practically sheltered here within the walls of our capital. I had assumed villagers would have better tolerance for poison than those here. Besides, it's not as thought I had used anything lethal."
That sent a cold chill to us all. Though I am glad she did not use any more dangerous poison, I was not looking forward to the day when she decide to do such.
"But what about me?" Felix asked. "There aren't any books on my particular Earth Magic, and I never even got offered to be trained."
"It's probably because of your half-blood. You may have the blood of a noble, but you also have the blood of a commoner. Hence, you may already have a good understanding of how your magic work," I theorized.
Most of the group were shocked when they heard the first half of what I said.
"Wait, he's half-commoner?" Belle questioned.
"Oh yeah, I am," Felix answered. "My dad's an earl, but my mom's a commoner, one who uses water magic, and his concubine. Because of that, I wasn't given the same treatment any pure-blooded noble would. But I see... so I'm only using a part of what I can truly do..."
"Then, what about crossbreeds?" Azalea asked, turning to Mindy and Sheera, the latter who finished her second bowl.
"Our magic's more or less linked to our blood," the crossbreed answered. "Depending on the animal blood we contain, how close of an understanding we have to our origin, our magic's strength is decided then. Or so I was told, at least. With what I'm hearing here, it does not sound like you humans have a full grasp exactly as to how your magic work until now."
"You did say for you, the more full you are, the greater magic power you possess then," I recalled.
Sheera nodded in confirmation to my words. "And the more powerful the venom in my teeth are," she added, catching Lilith's interest at the last part. "Thing is, though, even though that is how my magic work, I never once felt even a bit filling. That is, until I met Levi here. She helped me figure out what really gets me full."
"So you say, but I bet you actually want another bowl of this soup, don't you?" Felix said in suspicion, bringing his portion close to him to protect it from her sight.
"You know, I normally would, but I'm not kidding; I'm really full now," Sheera corrected, much to his and Lilith's surprise.
"Huh?! You're jesting! I know for sure you usually eat ten- no, twenty times that amount!"
The commoners and Mindy all looked at him with raised brow.
"Oh come on, man. That's not nice," Tem said.
"Actually he's telling the truth," I confirmed, to their bafflement. "And Felix, I'm pretty sure you mean 'fifty'."
"Well, you get what I mean, regardless. There's no way she can be full," the Mud Mage said.
"And she would've, under normal circumstances. But the truth is, her stomach and her magic does not run on just any meal. They have to contain mana for her to feel filling. Like this stew, for example. I handmade the chicken broth using my water magic, and lightly cooked the vegetables using the water from my magic. Because of that, this stew contains some of my mana, which is what truly fills Sheera's stomach."
Now that shocked the group, minus Mindy and Sheera.
"Wait, seriously?!" Shaun gasped.
"I never knew water magic could be used in that way... I thought it was only good for cleaning and watering plants," Belle said.
"You'll see that there are many other usages for my magic, just as much as there are for your magic," I said.
"Still, if that's how it is, then it would make sense for Sheera," Lilith stated. "Since her physical enhancement magic runs on a full belly, it should've been obvious that what she needed to consume is not food in general, but mana."
"Exactly. Course, that's not easy to do, as in normal cases, mana gets released from one's body when a spell is being casted, be it an attack spell or a defense one."
Everyone was speechless at that, as they took in what was said.
"Wow... To think there's still a lot of things we don't know about magic..." Leroy said.
"But we will learn a lot more now. We have Mindy teaching us the tricks," Azalea pointed out.
"Yeah! With her, we will definitely catch the other classes by surprise!" Tem exclaimed.
"I can only teach you how to improve in general. For the control and getting a better understanding of your own magic, that is something you guys have to continue to do alone. Lady Levi and I can give you tips every once in a while, but only you guys can understand where your limits are, and how your magic truly works," Mindy advised.
"Sounds good enough to me," Austin said, with Hailey and Belle nodding in agreement.
"So when do we start on the actual training?" Felix asked. "I hope it's after we eat. I want to get a better understanding of my magic, too! Especially since it's a new type no one knows."
"You guys can start whenever," I told them. "As for me, I have to find our other classmates and convince them into joining our training, too."
"If you're going to do that, it would be best if you bring me and Sheera along," Lilith told me.
"Hm? Why's that?"
"Though you are the Fifth Ranked student in our year, you are still a commoner. There is a high possibility that even if you do attempt to speak with them, the other nobles, and even crossbreeds, in our class would not pay much heed to you as we have."
I thought over what she said, and found it to be true. Besides, Felix did practically demonstrate how my meeting with those other nobles will go should I meet them. It would be better if one of their peers stood with me, even if it was someone with a bad reputation. ... Probably.
"Good point. Then Lilith and Sheera, you two come with me to search for the rest of our classmates. Everyone else will remain here to train under Mindy's watch."
"Right!" they all agreed.
