The symbol appeared at the clock tower at dawn. Marcus had been standing vigil, watching the sun rise over Havenport. The city was beautiful in the morning light, full of hope and promise. But the symbol changed everything. It was different from the others. Smaller. More intricate. It pulsed with a light that was both beautiful and terrible, a light that seemed to reach out, to hunger. Beneath it, written in a language that shouldn't exist, were words he could somehow read. THE FOUNDATION IS HEALING. BUT THE HEALING HAS CREATED SOMETHING NEW. SOMETHING THAT WAS NEVER MEANT TO EXIST. IT IS GROWING IN THE SPACE BETWEEN. AND IT IS HUNGRY. Marcus touched the symbol. It was cold, smooth, wrong. "Anna," he said into his phone.
