Four Monday morningSome merfolk enjoy mornings. They flop out of bed while it’s still dark so they can watch the early morning sunlight turn the midnight waters into a vibrant turquoise blue. I am not one of those merfolk. Sunrises are for suckers. The later I can sleep, the better. Growing up, Mom (or, if she wasn’t home, my brother Riatus) would have to forcibly pull me from my bed in the morning. Once I got to upper school, it got better. I am now capable of rousting myself…eventually. Some mornings are still a struggle. When the light reaches in through my window and tickles my nose, I turn away from it, burrowing deeper into my bed.
