The nightmare

The next morning I woke up and got dressed for school. I tried my best to not think about the fact that I bit a human. I went downstairs to have my breakfast. “Good morning, did you sleep good?” Not really mom. “I had this weird nightmare, there was even this creepy lady.” My mom had a weird look on her face, like she knew what I was talking about. “Mom? You ok?” “Yea..yea I’m fine. Eat your breakfast.” She was probably just stressed out. Anyways I ate my breakfast and went to school. Classes went by and I just sat at my seat, studying without interacting with anyone.

Time went by pretty fast today. It was already last period. Riley was walking towards me. “Elyna! Wanna come hangout with us after school” “Yea I’d love that” “Great. I’ll text you the address.” I felt amazing knowing someone wanted to hangout with me, knowing that I had friends even if they don’t know the real me. "RINGGGGGG". School ended.

I went back home and got ready to go to Filla’s house. “Where are you going?”,asked Jason. “To a friend’s house” He chuckled. “You have friends, like with humans?” “Argh just mind your own business Jason.” I then left the house.

Everyone was already there when I arrived. Mark and Andrew were playing video games meanwhile Filla and Riley were just chatting with each other. “Heyyy, you came”, said Riley. I smiled at them and went over and sat on the couch. “You’re house is amazing Filla.” “Oh thanks.” “Anyways what’d you think of the school so far?”, asked Riley. “Not that bad since you guys became my friends.” “I’m glad”, said Riley. “So i noticed that Mark doesn’t talk much.” “He’s probably just getting adjusted that a new person is joining our group”, said Filla. “Oh I hope I don’t make him feel uncomfortable” “Don’t worry about it, he’s fine,”. My phone started vibrating. It was my mom. “Can I know where’s the washroom?” “It’s down the hall, to your left.” I check my messages and it was my mom telling me to come back now.

That might be important so even though I didn’t want to leave I had to. I said goodbye to everyone and left. I had no idea what my parents wanted to talk about. In about 15 minutes, I reached home. I entered the hall to see my parents sitting with a really serious look on their face. Did they find out that I bit a human? Oh my god what if they did??

“Elyna we have something important to tell you”, said my dad. “This morning you said you saw a creepy lady in your dreams right?” “Yeah but what does that have to do with anything, it was just a dream.” “That wasn’t a dream”,said my dad. “What do you mean.” “It was a vision. Elyna, the witches are back. We were safe when we were in hiding but now they know we still exist.They want our kind dead”. My brain could barely process what my parents just said. “Is this my fault? Is it because I went to school?” “No sweetie. A long time back, we asked a good witch to help us stay hidden. So she cast a spell on us but now something must’ve broken the spell.”

I was shocked with the news. I’ve never even seen a witch before. We were no longer safe. We must now stay alert at all times. This made everything so much harder and I guess my dream to have a normal life is no longer possible.

The next morning I woke up knowing my life was a mess. I stayed in bed for a while just staring and thinking. I couldn’t go to school because of the witches, I couldn’t see my friends anymore to keep them safe. "knock knock!" “Good morning sis, how you doing?” “Fine I guess”. He came and sat beside me on the bed. “Look I know this thing with the witches is scary but you’re not alone and remember your big bro is here to always protect you”, he said with a smile on his face. “Thanks”, I said while hugging him. His words really reassured me. I’m so glad that I have a brother like him. Jason has always made sure I didn’t feel lonely or sad. Even when we were kids, he would always look out for me. “Ok now go take a bath and come down for some breakfast” I nodded.

After breakfast I went back to my room. I check my phone and no one said anything in the group chat. I didn’t overthink, I’m sure they’re just having a busy day at school. I then started watching some tv. Around an hour later the doorbell rang. I went to get the door. I was shocked when I opened it. It was Filla, Riley, Andrew and Mark. “What are you guys doing here?” “We thought we’d all surprise you since you didn’t come to school today”, said Riley. I didn’t know what to do so I told them to come in. Thank god my parents aren’t at home because if they knew there’s humans in our living room, it’d be the end of me. “Have a seat, I’ll be right back”. I rushed to Jason’s room. “Ok um don’t freak out but my friends are in the living room” “WHAT? HUMAN FRIENDS?” “Shushhhh! Yes human friends. They just showed up.” “Thank god mom and dad are out. You have an hour before they’re back so just make sure they don’t walk around and make sure they don’t go in the kitchen, that’s where the blood bags are.” “Chill, I know.”

I went back in the living room. “You live alone”?, asked Andrew. “No, um my parents are out and my brother’s in his room.” “Ooo you have a brother. Is he hot?”, asked Filla. I chucked and said “he wishes”. “Come on Elyna, call him out, said Riley.” “Nah I wouldn’t bother him, he’s kinda of a loner”. With a disappointed look in her face she said “fine”. “Why’s your house way up on the hill?”, asked Mark. “Oh I don’t know, I guess my parents wanted a nice view or something. By the way, how did you find out where I live?” “We have our ways”, said Andrew said with a grin on his face. Filla rolled her eyes at Andrew and said “We got it from the class book”. Your house is pretty big, what do your parents-

She was cut off by a loud bang! It was the witches. The witches found us but that’s not the worst thing, my friends were with me too.
