I put my head into my hands and sniffed, tears rolling down my face. I heard Magnus clear his throat and when Simon growled, I finally lifted my head and looked at her.

“There has to be another way” I begged “This isn’t fair”

“It’s f*****g barbaric, that’s what it is” Simon growled

Again Magnus cleared his throat and then I looked at him

“Pop’s” I helped out my hand to him, begging him

Magnus moved swiftly, taking me into his arms and hugging me like a child. He looked at the Moon Goddess before shaking his head

“Is there no other way?” Magnus asked

“There isn’t” She said, her voice sweet and low “Not without causing other problems and possible danger”

Magnus nodded before kissing my forehead. He looked into my eyes and spoke quietly, as if scared to frighten me

“It’s your choice little one; but with everything we know and of what is possible to come; can we really afford not to do this?” Magnus asked me

“Ho….How will I explain it to him? It’s so sick and wrong” I cried

“We agreed to go there so he could see her one last time” Magnus said “But if you really don’t want to do this; then you need to be prepared to what might happen”

“While I think this is sick and wrong” Simon grumbled “You know it’s the right things, even though i’m sure there must be another way”

Simon growled at Ophelia and gripped my hand, pulling me up from Magnus’s lap and into his arms. Immediately, my body calmed down. My trembling slowly easing as his warmth seeped into me.

“He is my great grandchild” Ophelia said strongly “I would never place him in danger. If there had been any other way; I would have suggested it”

“We could let Anna and Jason know we need more time” I whispered

“Jason is already antsy about it” Magnus said “he wants this done yesterday”

“The shithead should feel lucky” Simon snorted “No one else could give him guarantees”

“Or the dangers that come with it” I said

I moved away from Simon’s arms and wiped my tears. I took a deep breath as I looked up towards the ceiling and tried to concentrate on the colours; anything….to calm down.

“How much pain will there be?” I asked without moving my eyes from the ceiling “For both of them?”

Silence

I hated that silence because I knew I wasn’t going to like the answer

“I will try-” Ophelia said

“How much?” I cut in, not wanting any bull shit

“An equivalent to a very bad period cramp” Ophelia said quietly “But it will only last two and a half minutes and then it will be done”

I winced. I recalled my bad period cramps when I was human and before being bitten. They were bad. Two and a half minutes might not sound long but when in pain…it’s a lifetime. How could I put my baby through that!

“This is bullshit!” Simon growled “He’s a kid”

“But he’s not though” I answered

“What the f**k Soph?” Simon whispered “You’re in agreement now?”

“I’m not” I said, finally moving my eyes and looking at my mate “But I also know Kai and how difficult these last two years have been”

“I agree” Magnus said quietly “Think back to the worry, to the tension and also Jason’s worry”

“The asshole is being a d**k!” Simon shouted “Instead of being grateful, he is being a p***y”

“He’s being a father just like you” I replied “A worried father who has already lost one child and can’t face losing another….even if only for a moment”

Just like that, all of Simon’s bolstering and aggression died down. I saw him cave in and huff out a breath as he closed his eyes, his hand running through his short hair. I walked over to Simon and hugged him, pulling his face down to plant a deep kiss on his luscious lips. When we both groaned in pleasure and he pulled my body closer, I heard Magnus clear his throat and I blushed, moving away a little.

“c**k blocker” Simon growled

“I can still take you out pup!” Magnus said, baring his teeth and flashing his red eyes

“Then she would be mateless and upset” Simon said smugly “Would you really want that?”

“I have power enough to keep her sustained without you” Magnus threatened

I rolled my eyes. This happened every time Simon and I went too far in our passion in front of people or when Magnus was around to witness it. Over five years and he still held a slight grudge with how Simon treated me. I mean, I hadn't been any better. There was a lot of misunderstanding and immaturity there when Simon and I had first met……and we had grown since then but you wouldn’t think it with the way Magnus sometimes acts even though most of the time, he is fine with him….unless Simon is pawing at me.

“Really pop?” I asked Magnus

“Just because he is your mate doesn’t mean I like seeing him treat you like meat” Magnus said, folding his arms

Oh s**t! He went there

“MEAT?” Simon exploded “That’s my mate you’re talking about!”

“That’s my daughter you’re pawing at like a randy ass player!” Magnus growled at him

Simon stalked over to Magnus who’s eyes had turned red and was also moving towards Simon. This could get ugly! I looked at Ophelia who was only watching them in amusement and rolled her eyes at me

“Last time I checked, being intimate with your mate and seeing her as desirable wasn’t a bad thing” Simon growled back

“No, but drooling everytime she is near and sniffing the air to see if she is ripe for breeding is” Magnus taunts

“when the f**k do I do that?” Simon shouted

“You don’t think I see you look at her….your wolf contemplating planting another pup inside of her?” Magnus growled back

“POP!” I said, blushing furiously “Too far!”

“Too f*****g far!” Simon said as he bumped his chest with Magnus

“After the last hard birth, you should be getting fixed” Magnus smiled evilly

Simon’s eyes widened and his hands automatically went to cover his jeans-covered c**k. I choked, eyes bulging. What on earth has gotten into these two?

“Ok, that’s enough” Ophelia finally said.

With a flick of her singer, she tossed each of them to the opposite side of the room and closed their mouths. I let out a snort as I saw their disgruntled faces then sighed when they both finally calmed down

“While this distraction was amusing, it will not stop the conclusion” Ophelia said “Not like the last five times; although you did go too far this time Magnus”

I know my face showed shock when I looked at them both

“It was a ploy?” I asked in surprise

“Yes” Ophelia said “But no doubt they both did say to each other what they couldn’t without causing an actual rift”

With another flick of her finger, both Magnus and Simon were free to move and talk again. Magnus winked at me while Simon looked at me sheepishly. I folded my arms and shook my head.

Men!

“Well, I did mean a lot of what I said” Magnus grumbled “Especially the part about getting fi-”

Ophelia closed Magnus’s mouth once again as she sighed with frustration. Simon lost colour in his face as a low growl left his mouth. I gripped his hand hard and when he finally looked at me; I nipped his jaw playfully

“Later” I whispered to him

“Later” Simon said, nodding his head at me

“Now” Ophelia said “Shall we come to the conclusion at hand”

I sighed, my heart breaking

“This isn’t as easy as we thought” Simon sighed

“And yet it was you who insisted upon this before seeking out Jason for validation” Magnus said

“Because I saw how it affected Kai. Because walking to your toddler’s room to kiss him goodnight, only to see him not there was a heart attack waiting to happen. The amount of times I…I-” Simon cutoff, his voice wavering slightly before he coughed to clear his throat

“I know” Magnus said, his arms hanging down in defeat “I’ve felt the same way…countless times he has shown up in the middle of a fight or...situation. My heart almost jumps out of my body each time even though I know his power”

“And this is why we must do it” I whispered

Simon stiffens before pulling me to him once more, his right hand lifting my jaw up to look at him. His eyes piercing my very soul.

“Are you sure?” Simon asks me “You know what this means and what he will go through…after. What they both will go through”

“It’s the only way Si” I said, shaking my head even as tears gathered

Sighing, he nodded before placing his chin on top of my head.

I looked at Ophelia and nodded, my chest tight as I clocked Magnus and his sad face

“Do it” I whisper

“You agree….you all agree that this is the best way forward? Because once done…it can’t be undone” She said

I almost hesitated and I felt Simon grip me harder. When he lifted his head and nodded, I knew it was all agreed.

“Very well then” Ophelia said sadly “We will bind Kai’s powers and mask the mate bond until he is twenty six and she twenty”

I sniffed, knowing that Kai would break, that his many years would be lonely without his mate but what could we do? How else was I meant to protect him? Magnus blinked rapidly and I knew it was to hold back tears. Simon just held me tighter as he swallowed hard.

I just hope they both forgive me…that Kai forgives me for doing this

“We will visit them as planned” Ophelia said “And allow them a day to be together before completing the spell”

“Anna?” I asked

“She is much like you” Ophelia said “Conflicted but willing”

I nodded, my mouth opening to speak about further plans when I saw stardust appear beside Magnus and Kai appeared

“Grandmaaaaa” Kai shouted

“Kai!” Ophelia said, opening her arms wide and allowed him to run into them

“Kai!” Simon growled “What did we say about going to the afterlife and without telling us! You can’t just disappear like that son!”

“I didn’t go there” Kai smiled “I went to see Aria. She needed me”

“Ireland!” Simon huffed out a breath” I’m sure Jason was thrilled with that!”

“He didn’t see us” Kai said smugly “Aria and I went to Malaysia. Ever since aunty Tara let us have that Nasi Lemak dish, Aria really

loves it but Aunti Anna can’t cook like that and aunty Tara is away for two months. So we went where she told us it was made”

“And how exactly did you pay for it?” Simon asked, hands on his hips

“Oh, right. Sorry dad” Kai said

Before our eyes Kai’s appearance changed. Our mouths hung open in shock as Kai transformed himself into an exact replica of his father, his body elongating in height, his clothes changing into Simon’s black jeans and blue polo top. I looked at Magnus and Simon who both stood with their mouths open as Kai moved away from Ophelia and reached into the jeans pocket and took out a plastic card

Kai walked over and placed Simon’s black credit card into his limp open hand before reaching into his other jeans pocket and pulled out some notes before placing them into Simon’s hand too

“I only spent about twenty pounds. Here’s the pocket money to cover it” Kai said with maturity “I know it was wrong dad, but I couldn’t NOT give my mate what she wanted right? Like you do for mum?”

As he walked towards Ophelia, his height reduced as he went back to being a little boy again, his clothes changing to match his needs.

I watched in awe of my son’s power, my mind boggled at what else he could possibly do.

“Did you know he could do that?” Magnus said, walking up to us and whispering

“No”I whispered as I watched him talk with his great grandmother in excitement

“The little s**t used my credit card to pay for a f*****g date with his mate” Simon said with both shock and pride

“Where else has he been travelling too?” Magnus whispered “This is worrying. I didn’t realise he could do all of that”

“At least he didn’t charge you for the flights. Last minute flights are-” I cut off when Simon looked at me

“That’s what your getting from all of this?” Simon whispered furiously “OUR son went to Ireland and took his two year old mate to

Malaysia; took my credit card and imitated me with apparently new found powers that let’s him appear as a grown up….and then

calmly had a meal…a date there! Drops her off at her house before coming back home here….giving me money to cover for the date while changing back into a boy and you’re worried about the cost of flights?”

“Ok SI” I said, trying to calm him down even as Simon’s chest heaved with shock “Easy now”

“I mean, how long has he been able to do this? Can he change into other people? Can he make Aria change into an older person too? Or into other people or…oh f**k!” Simon pales “Can they two be grown adults who are having se-”

“Simon!” I gasp, putting my hand over his mouth

I couldn’t let him finish. The implications of those words…of this new development was too much to take in. I watched as Kai laughed and showed Ophelia trinkets he bought for his brother and sister and I felt shocked too, feeling sick at what Simon almost voiced being possibly true. As I moved my hand away from a shaking Simon, I saw him clutch at the card and money

“He’s so f*****g smart. So mature and yet he is my little boy…my pup who hasn’t even reached shifter maturity yet. His thought about his mate and giving her what she needed….i’m so f*****g proud of him but this” Simon looks at me with sadness in his eyes and he shows me his closed fist “I can’t watch my pup grow old before his time. I can’t spend every day wondering if he was even in the UK, never mind halfway across the world. He still has much to learn…and to think of him being in danger...I”

Simon shakes his head, choking on his words. Magnus nodded, his eyes sombre and quiet

“I didn’t agree with it really but thought there must have been some benefits to it. Now” Magnus cleared his throat “Surely, Sophie, You can see it needs doing. If this is what he can do now…imagine when he is ten, or a teen….goddess! A teen! How are you going to stop them two from jumping time zones and countries....hell, the afterlife. None of us can do that! We couldn’t even follow them to help if something bad happened”

“Pop’s” I whisper, my heart breaking when thinking of Kai in danger

“I’m just saying my pup. I worry for you and the girls and you are all grown ass adults and powerful in your own rights. Parents never stop being parents even when their children are grown, but…This is Kai. He may be a supreme…the rightful Supreme but he is still a pup pup.” Magnus said shaking his head

“I know” I whisper, holding Simon trembling hand “And that is why, we must bind his power and dull their bond and do it strong enough to make them both forget each other. It’s the only way to keep them both safe”

“And how do we keep them both from being sexually active with other’s in the meantime?” Simon asked

“Simon!” I winced at the thought of my son being intimate with anyone while looking at him as a small boy

“It’s a valid question my pup” Magnus said, scratching his jaw

I looked at Ophelia, my mind working overtime at this new Kai and display of powers. I watched the worry and fear on both of the men’s faces and I knew we would need to address the conversation with Kai...one, I never thought i’d be having for many years yet. I didn’t know how Anna was going to react when she found out about this new development but Jason was going to hit the roof! Poor Aria might not be allowed out of the house until she was thirty...if she was lucky.

“Jason is going s**t a brick” I whisper quietly

“Then we have to do it” Magnus said

“I know” I sighed “And it does need to be as strong as Ophelia said. They can't feel the bond before they are older...I wonder if there is

some sort of spell that doesn't allow them to cross each other's path"

"Soph!" Simon hissed out

"It might be what we need" Magnus whispers in sadness

I hear Simon take a deep breath of shock at not just my acceptance but with how strong a spell I now wanted. I saw Magnes nod in agreement as we all watched a little boy speak animatedly to his great grandmother even as his ferocious power radiated out from his body and lit up the room
