I watched as we drove away from the pack, finally on our way home

“Was it just me or did things seem more tense than normal?” Scott asked

“I thought the same” Tim nodded

“Nick’s hiding something” Simon added

“I agree” Ray said

“I worry about Pete” Scott said “His family…they don’t deserve to be frightened or threatened. It’s bad enough there being targeted”

“I have eyes and ears on the ground” Simon said

“How much can three people do” Tim said

“Who said it was only three?” Simon smirked

I saw Ray lift his eyebrows and Tim looked shocked. Even Scott was surprised and then he laughed

“You bugged the place didn’t you?” Scott asked

“Something Magnus’s beta said. Speaking of which, there on their way over too” Simon smiled

“I take it the pack don’t know that?” Ray asked

“Only the alpha” Simon said “Seven of Magnus's people will stay there and keep an eye on Pete and his family as well as the pack

within. Someone is definitely a traitor because the van was being targeted even after it had been checked both going in and out of the ferry”

“s**t” Ray swore “That means someone was either part of the conversation or there when Pete spoke after they got off the Ferry and

started driving to Glasgow”

“Yeah” Simon nodded “Because they were only forty minutes away when he called into the pack to inform them of their drive and the

fact that our informant was inside. They were attacked and chased by cars within fifteen minutes”

“That means someone had those guys on stand by” Scott swore “Someone in this pack is definitely playing both sides”

“I want to know where that female went” Ray said “And the only other people who can tell us is in the hospital”

“I don’t get it” Tim said, shaking his head “What about their daughter?”

Simon and Ray looked at each other and then nodded. What did that mean? Scott looked at them both and frowned

“What did you guys do?” Scott asked

“Simon accepted Kai’s help” Ray smirked

“What?” Scott asked, his eyes wide

“When I was in my room, I called Kai. I explained we were worried about Pete’s daughter unknowingly speaking or saying something to the traitor. Kai projected and helped to sooth her mind and make her feel like she had nothing she was hiding so when she spoke, no-one detected a lie” Simon explained

“It was the best way to keep her safe” Ray said

I yipped, my paws moving onto Ray’s lap as he held them gently, his eyes smiling at me. When his hand ran over my head and to the back of my ears, I panted; my heart racing. He gently leaned over and kissed my forehead, heat spreading all over me.

“Magnus’s men will keep her safe while mine do some digging” Simon said “Once you guys are home and safe, and Scott and I have checked up on Soph, I’m heading back there” Simon confirmed

“Keep me in the loop Si” Ray said “There’s definitely more going on than we know. I know Jason was going to speak to Rashid about this. I’m going to send some of my men over to you too. Some will protect your pack and some will go with you”

“Good Idea” Simon nodded “With all the people involved, the traitor is bound to make some sort of mistake. Even if he or she lays low”

While they all talk, I lay my head down on his lap, over my paws and he smiles at me. I felt my breathing even out and started going into a deep sleep when I felt warmth engulf my body. I opened one eye and saw that Ray and placed a light blanket over the rest of my body so only my head and front paws could be seen.

“Sleep Fina” Ray said gently “We still have a while to go before we reach Simon’s pack. From there, we will go home”

Home. That word sounds good. Safe

“ I'm glad we sounded logical to Nick when we insisted on leaving today. That timely call from Magnus helped solidify his involvement. Are you sure you don’t want to stay a night?” Simon asked Ray “At least just to rest”

“I need her home” Ray said, shaking his head “There’s this urgent need I can’t explain. Tim, you can always rest up and meet us there tomorrow”

“I’m coming back with you boss” Tim said

“Hey Scott” Tim said “Any chance of us getting a hamper to go”

I heard them all chuckle, talking about Simon’s kitchen and the food. I knew I don't know when I drifted off, only remembering everyone talking about food a lot. I fell asleep for a long time because when I woke up, the car was quiet except for music on a low volume. When I glanced up, Ray had his eyes closed, Scott was looking at his phone and while I couldn’t see what Simon was doing, he seemed to be pretty still.

I was about to put my head back on my paws when Ray jerked awake and his eyes opened, his breathing harsh

“Hey man” Scott said, looking at him “You ok?”

“Yeah” Ray said, his eyes seeking me “I just thought…Fina..”

“We’re almost home” Simon said “Another thirty minutes top”

“What happened boss?” Tim asked

“Can’t believe I almost fell asleep” Ray yawned

“You need rest. Don’t forget, it’s only been two days since you woke up” Simon said, turning around to look at us

I titled my head. Woke up? From what. Ray growled low in his throat and then scratched behind my ear

“It’s nothing Fina” Ray said quietly

I whined, asking him what Simon meant but he shook his head at me. Before I knew it, we were driving into a wooded area and had left the city where so many cars were about. We drove through the countryside and finally came to a gate where a few guards were stationed. I saw them bow their heads when they looked at Simon and opened the gate. As soon as the car crossed the threshold, I felt an immediate sense of happiness and I wanted to roll out my tongue.

A gentle whisper entered my head, a voice I knew
