AN ENCOUNTER - lily's pov

The sun was starting to rise and I had already run way past the pack borders. I had been running for at least 6 hours now, but I had stopped a while back to shift into my wolf so I could get away faster. I could run longer and faster than the humans but in my wolf form I was way faster. The sun was completely up now and Lani and I were both completely exhausted. We stopped running and were now walking around looking for a place to rest for a while. After about 10 more minutes of walking we found a stop to rest. There were two trees that were so close it looked like they almost grew on top of each other. At the bottom of those trees was a deep enough hole for Lani and I to sleep in until we got up and took off again. “ Do you think this is good enough Lani ?” No response “Lani ?” Nothing again. And now that I think about it ,I haven't heard anything from her since we were rejected. Ohhhhh “ goddess Lani I am so sorry i wasn't enough to keep our mate. I can't even imagine what you must be feeling.” I lightly whispered to her, tears now coming out of our eyes. I knew she was there when I heard soft whimpers of pain from her. I laid down beneath the tree roots still in my wolf form , closed my eyes, and waited for morning to come. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I woke up when we felt a cool breeze flow through our fur. I got up and stretched out my legs. I looked up at the sky and realized it was nightfall. I picked up the duffel bag and walked to the nearest river to find something to eat. Once I finished eating four fishes we took off again and this time we didn't stop till the sun rose and fell again. We must have run for about 18 hours by now but Lani and I were exhausted, physically, mentally, and emotionally. I decided this was our last stop, we had to have been far enough from all the drama back at home. I just wanted to rest and start over somewhere new. Maybe after sometime we could find a chosen mate. I shifted back and put on some clothes we brought in the bag. I walked around looking for a new place to call home. It didn't take long till we found a dip in the ground where, a little further down was a dark cave. Please don't let there be bats in there. I started walking downward, arms out to keep myself balanced, till I reached flat land. Once I reached a not so rocky ground there were two paths to go through. The right path looked dark and scary, and you could almost hear bat screeches, so we took the left path since you could see a little light, and hear water running. It was a little rocky going down but then there were these step-like things toward the end so you would just walk down easily the rest of the way. It was kind of like walking down a staircase. As we reached the end of the pathway, there were no words to describe how beautiful it was. There were a few lights that littered the walls and ground, and there was clean clear water covering most of the floor. It was almost like an indoor pool type thing. There were large stone steps at the front of the “pool”. Then there was an even bigger flat surfaced stone that popped out the middle of the water, and right above the stone there was water dripping down from who knows where. I saw, off to the right side of the pool there was a small circular spot surrounded by black grey stone. I walked over to peek inside to see that there was more clear clean water in there. “This would be the perfect place to stay” I spoke aloud to no one. If you turned to the left side there was a giant hole in the wall that you could walk through. So of course I had to walk through it. The other side of the wall was basically just another room without a door, and ya know everything else an actual room has. The entire thing was empty and bare, except for the long metal bars on the walls with a bunch of little hooks one the underside of it . One on each wall opposite from the other. There were also three thick chunks of stone that stuck out the walls. One above each metal bar and another in the middle of the bare wall across the giant hole. It kind of seemed like someone lived here before. Because I know that caves don't come with built in metal bars or such clean water, and the smaller pool thing was surrounded by stones that looked carefully placed around the pool and one the inside wall of the pool. And the lights must have been carefully installed in the walls .It didn't matter who or what stayed here before me, I was going to love staying here. I threw my duffel bag on the ground right against the wall and walked out of the space between the wall. I was going out to find the largest tree leaves I could, and attempt to make a bed that isn't covered in rocks and dirt. As I make my way out of the cave and into the forest I stretch a little and look up to see the sun is slowly rising. I've officially been away from home for three day now. I shook off the thought of home and took off to make myself a new home. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Four hours later I reached the cave. I went hunting before I went to find the leaves because I was starving, but it was snowing so there really isn't anything out there, so I had to settle for a pocket full of berries and arms full of foxglove leaves. As I walked down the steps at the end of the tunnel my new home came into view. I set the leaves down on a big rock against the wall, then pressed my back to the wall and slid down to the ground. I had been walking around for hours, my feet hurt, I was hungry, and I was alone. I always went hunting with my mother. Maybe that's why I didn't catch anything. I might be cursed to starve since I ran away from home. I got up from the ground, picked up the leaves, and took them to the space in the wall to make my bed. I laid the leaves down layering each other so I wouldn't have to feel the rocks cutting into my sides as much. Since there was nothing else to do i laid down on my bed of leaves and brought my duffel bag under my head and went to sleep. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's been five days since I left home and I've considered going back. In the last two days I've managed to find one fish and a few berries. I honestly don't think I'm going to make it on my own but I don't want to go back home to be reminded that I was rejected by my mate and lied to by the people closest to me. Although I'm not doing the greatest on my own, I'm also not ready to go back. So back to the woods I go to find some actual food. I had to shift into my wolf form to hunt properly, and I needed to go further than I normally went to hunt, since it was obvious there was very little food where I went hunting. After running for 10 minutes. I could hear a deer somewhere near. I stopped running and started to listen for my prey. I slowly and carefully walked toward the noise coming from the deer or at least what sounded like a deer. I was proved right when a brown baby deer with white spots on its hip appeared a couple feet in front of me. The deer started to move to the right with its head down low looking for food too. I, too, went down low so I could sneak up behind the deer without it seeing me. I very slowly walked up behind the deer. Now we were just 5 feet apart. I inched closer. CRACK Oh no! I accidentally stepped on a stick which sent the deer running and me after it. I was not going to let my food get away, I refused to go another day without eating. I was so close. Almost got it. So close to eating. Then the next thing I know I'm face down in the cold dirt. UGH!! DAMN IT. I was so close. So so close. I guess another day without eating wont hurt. Yes it will. It most definitely will. I tried to get up but the moment I moved I felt a sharp pain in my left leg. I turned my head to look at what was causing me so much pain. Big mistake cause now i think i might throw up. Or pass out, maybe both. There was a big and sharp ass piece of wood sticking out of my left hind leg, and blood. Lots and lots of blood. My white fur was now blood red. I tried to get up again and I let out a pain filled howl when I felt something in my leg slightly tear. Oh goddess, I'm gonna die out here. All alone and in pain. Wow, the universe must really hate me. I felt tears start to slowly come out now. This is it. Lani and I are going to bleed to death. I jump a little when I hear a loud thunder and feel the rain come down on me. “Lani I love you so much you are the only one who hasn't let me down.” I confide in my wolf. “I am so sorry I’m making us die like this. You deserved so much better than me.” I feel her jump and prance around in my head. She seems happy. “What the hell are you so happy about we are DYING!?” i scold her Now she’s whipping her tail around. Okay it's official my wolf is broken. My eyes are slowly starting to close when I feel a powerful presence around me. I try to open my eyes to see who it is but all I can make out are glowing red eyes in a shadowy figure standing over me. HOLY s**t A SCARY SHADOW IS GOING TO EAT US!! I was really starting to panic because there was a scary shadow thing looming over me and I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. As my eyes close completely I think it's time I accept my fate. I’m willingly giving myself over to death as a rough pair of hands grab me and then, Complete darkness.
