The Failed Escape.
My palms are sweaty, and my heart is beating quicker than usual. I stood in front of Xavier's office door, but I was too afraid to knock since I am a coward. Yesterday, after Kate and I talked, I decided to ask Xavier about my leaving to New York, but Xavier was not present at the dinner, nor was he present at today's breakfast. When I asked one of the maids about his whereabouts, they said he is working in his office in the mansion. They warned me about angering him when I was going to come here, but I want to get out of here as soon as possible; I don't want to be a burden to him any longer. So here I am in front of his office. I took a deep breath and knocked twice on his office door. I waited for his permission. When it didn't arrive, I was puzzled. I knocked again, but received the same response. I put my nervousness aside and opened the door to see him having a video conference with his earpiece.
'That's why he didn't hear my knocking,' I reasoned. I was ready to leave his office when his eyes met mine, causing my breath to stop for a split second.
"I...I," I said, but his face was expressionless.
"I'll call you again," he said, closing his laptop and standing up, and in an instant, he was towering over me, making me appear like a little mouse in front of him.
"I apologies for disturbing you; I will leave now." I praise myself for not shuttering in front of him this time.
"Do you need anything?" I was caught off guard by that inquiry.
"I...I" I mentally sigh before taking a deep breath. I glance at him, trying to escape his grey eyes.
"I want to go back to New York," his grey eyes looked at me in surprise, and there was a brief moment of despair that was quickly replaced by rage. When I saw the expression on his face, I took a step back.
"I told you I will let you leave when you recovered..." I didn't even give him the chance to complete his sentence.
"I understand what you said, but I want to leave, and you don't have to take me to New York. I can handle on my own. I'm not a little girl anymore who is unable to do something. I can go back to New York by myself," I was reasoning with him when one thought occurred to me. Why do I have to get his permission to leave? I am my own person, and I did not need his permission to leave. He clenched his fist before sliding his hands into his pockets, making himself appear more frightening.
"You're right, you're not a little girl anymore. You can do anything you want, but it's my obligation to take you there by myself." I can see the rage in his eyes and the way he controls himself to avoid expressing his anger. My head trembled with the way he looks right now.
"I want to leave now" he took a step forward, forcing me to take a step back.
"I. WILL. TAKE. YOU. THERE. BY. MYSELF." He says each word threateningly, making me gasp, but I'm not backing down. The time was over when I used to bend forward for every person and now it is my turn to stand on my own feet. I will not back down until I achieve my goals. I take a step back after having had a look around. I dashed out of his office before he realized what was going on. I can hear his footsteps and he was shouting at me to stop running, but I didn't and couldn't since I knew it's now or never. I want my freedom and I want it now. I didn't slow down. When I run out of the mansion I was smiling while remembering my freedom, and how sweet it could be. But it quickly vanished as I noticed the guards stationed at the gate. When the guards opened the gate for a car to enter, I looked around and began to plan my escape. I took the risk and was ready for action when a muscular arm wrapped around my waist and drew me closer.
"Got you," a deep and smooth voice said, making me tremble in fear of what he would do about my failed escape. I began writhing in his arm.
"Let me go," I screamed, but it was futile. Instead of letting go, he tightened even more. I can feel his breath on my neck as he leaned his head even further.
"Never corazoncito," he says quietly, his voice thick and husky. I shudder again, but this time it's not from fear, but from something else I can't place. I noticed Nicholas getting out of the car and jogging towards the passenger seat, which he held out for a beautiful woman who got out of the car. They exchanged smiles. They muttered something before connecting their arms and approaching us. I'm curious who she is to him. I saw Xavier's attention was drawn to them, and as a result, his grasp eased somewhat. I took advantage of the opportunity and elbowed him in the stomach, causing him to swear beneath his breath. I sprang out of his cage and ran towards the gate, without waiting for anything. Fortunately, the gate was still open. My face immediately lit up with a smile. I was going to run away when someone threw his arm around my waist and drew me in closer yet again. And he is none other than my demise, Xavier.
"No, let me go," I cried, thrashing in his arm.
"Wrong move," he says quietly before lifting a syringe, which I failed to notice.
"No," I mumbled, but before I could say or do anything, he shot me, causing me to pass out in his arm in seconds.
Xavier's Castillo P.O.V
After a few seconds, she became a limb in my arm. She is a feisty woman. I shook my head and suddenly a small smile form on my face when I saw her beautiful face. 'She looks beautiful in her sleep,' I thought. I heard someone clearing their throat. For a minute I forget Nicholas was here and he caught me fascinating a woman. Damn.
"What are you doing here?" I asked to hide what their witness before.
"How can a mighty Xavier forget about his meeting?" Nicholas sarcastically reminded me of the extremely important meeting that we needed to attend. How could I have forgotten such a vital detail? I can't believe I overlooked it.
"I know we have a meeting," I said, my voice cold. Nicholas, like me, is a businessman, but he works as my right hand in my illegal business. And now we have a crucial meeting to attend. Nowadays, the crime rate of a country is growing due to murder, abduction, drug selling, r**e cases, and a variety of other criminal activities taking place in the country. This is happening because the mafia in this country increasing day by day. The leader of the mafia is Michael Garcia and the government wants to get rid of him. And because the police force was unable to arrest him, the task was assigned to me, and today's meeting is all about the contract that I will sign with the government. I didn't want the project at first, but when I found out they were ready to pay a large sum, I figured why not?
"Righttttt" Nicholas' voice returned me to the present. He had a mock on his face, while his wife Charlotte smiled and looked between me and Harper. I choose to ignore them and swept Harper into my arm as a bridal style.
"Charlotte, can you look after Harper while I'm gone?" she nodded with a hidden smile. I nodded and began walking.
Charlotte usually came to my place to stay whenever Nicholas left the house or went to the mission. Nicholas claims that my house is much safer than his, and he is right since I placed advanced security systems throughout my house. There is no way an attacker could enter my home without my permission. And, being Nicholas, he has enemies all throughout the nation, which he cannot forget, which is why he is overprotective of his wife.
When I reached her room technically my room. I laid her on the bed. I don't know why but I kissed her forehead before leaving the room. I gave Charlotte the ground rule for Harper before leaving for a meeting. I knew she'd want to leave when the time comes, but I don't want her to leave just yet. I couldn't stop thinking about her and realized she was a distraction for me and my work. She was the only person on my mind till we arrived at our destination.
It's time to work, I thought, trying to block off her beautiful face from my mind, but I know this is going to be hard.
