Chapter 14

His statement brought up a sudden spring of joy in me. The king was very humble in contrast to his son who felt he could talk to anyone as he wished. I was still angry with him though. I looked at him yet he kept looking elsewhere, probably where his lover was. I was shattered. However, I was not going to let that spoil my fun although I could not help but wonder why Tristan could not just tell his parents that he wanted the maid rather than marry me, who he was not in love with, or was something wrong somewhere? “Let us eat. Our food is getting cold” the queen instructed as she took her spoon. “Of course” Every other person agreed with her including Tristan whose mind had wandered afar a few minutes ago. Finally, my fear was conquered as I began to eat. They accepted me wholeheartedly. It was a great feeling to be accepted. We had our dinner quietly, with Brittany occasionally staring at me and smiling at me. I was glad because I thought she would be the one to reject me but on the contrary, she was happy to see me. Time passed and dinner was finally over.
