Second chance wedding

Henry’s POV The next morning, I didn’t bother going to work. Nothing in the entire world felt more important than the woman sitting beside me. My phone had been switched off since dawn. No calls from anyone, no interruptions of any sort, no family drama. Just me, Dora, Tracy, Anita, and my best friend Jeremy driving quietly toward the court premises where Dora and I would become husband and wife legally and officially. I turned to look at Dora, she looked very nervous, but there was happiness in her eyes too. Real happiness at last. The kind that made her lips tremble whenever she smiled too hard. And somehow that smile did something dangerous to me. Every single time I looked at her, my body reacted before my mind could even react. The feeling was just so lovely. I hated how much power she already had over me, yet I couldn’t stop staring. When it was finally time to sign the marriage documents, Dora held the pen with shaky fingers. I noticed the way she bit her lower lip nervously before writing her name beside mine. Dora Williams. Soon to become Dora Lyon. The moment she signed, she looked up at me with the brightest smile I had ever seen. Immediately I felt guilty, because the happiness glowing inside her eyes was real and mine wasn’t. The registrar congratulated us while Anita screamed excitedly and Dora wiped tears from her eyes. Jeremy clapped loudly from behind us, making jokes as usual. Pictures were taken afterward. Dora held onto my arm the entire time like she was scared I would disappear if she let go. If only she knew the truth. If only she knew she had just walked willingly into the very thing that would destroy her. Still, I smiled for every camera. Played the perfect husband, held her waist, kissed her forehead. And somehow, every touch felt more real than it was supposed to. That was the dangerous part. After the registration, we went to a private lounge to celebrate. Nothing extravagant, just drinks, food, laughter, and a few close people. I never cared much for elaborate weddings anyway. Marriage was never about decorations or expensive ceremonies. It was about the people involved. And for me, this marriage was about revenge. Jeremy eventually walked toward me with two glasses in his hands before dropping into the seat beside mine. “Hi dude, congrats,” he said, grinning as he stretched his hand toward me. I chuckled and high fived him. “Thanks, bro.” “But Henry” His smile faded slightly. “I thought your parents didn’t approve of Dora.” Jeremy said coldly. I smirked before pouring myself another drink. “I don’t need their permission,” I said calmly. “And you of all people should know that.” Jeremy leaned closer, lowering his voice. “But you know there’s more to why they rejected her.” I swallowed the drink slowly, letting the burning liquid slide down my throat while old memories found their way back into my head. “I know,” I muttered. I knew better than anyone. The Williams family ruined us, they destroyed us. Left us begging while they rose higher. And the worst part? My sister paid the price for it. My grip tightened painfully around the glass. I could still remember her weak voice. Still remember watching her die slowly because we couldn’t afford the treatment she needed after my father lost everything. I remembered my mother crying herself to sleep every night. I still remembered the shame, humiliation, hunger and rage. And while my parents eventually chose peace, I Henry Lyon, chose revenge. “They think I moved on,” I said bitterly. “They think I forgave them.” Jeremy stayed silent. “But I never forgot.” My voice darkened. “Not for one second.” The noise inside the lounge suddenly felt distant. All I could hear was the sound of my own heartbeat and the echoes of the past. I had spent years preparing for this moment. Years getting close, years waiting. And now? I was finally inside their family. Married to their precious daughter. Jeremy stared at me carefully before shaking his head. “Damn, Henry you’re terrifying.” A slow smile spread across my face. “Smart people don’t attack immediately,” I said quietly. “They wait.” I raised my glass toward his. “They wait for the perfect moment.” Jeremy laughed darkly before clinking his glass against mine. “To a new beginning.” I smirked. “To unveiling a side of me Dora never saw coming.” Jeremy grinned wickedly. “To the beginning of Dora’s suffering.” We both burst into laughter. But suddenly the sound of a clap echoed sharply behind us. Every muscle in my body froze. Jeremy’s laughter died instantly. “Bravo.” A cold voice cut through the air. “Well done.” Another clap followed. “A truly impressive performance.” My heart beat violently fast as Jeremy and I turned around at the same time. And the moment I saw who was standing there sweat from nowhere completely poured from my face. Because the one person who was never supposed to hear our conversation had heard everything.
