The Doctor

710 Words
Belle Morning breaks and that is when I met my new Healer. He has silvery hair and words fall out of his mouth like venom. There he is saying ‘Bel the world has not yet ended, no one has died’ but that of course is what he wants me to think. He doesn’t know I heard it. I heard the screams of the people that day. The horses hooves on the pavement. The banshees are calling out for me. I feel a tingling sensation as if the bees under my skin have calmed down. This Healer has a growing darkness around him . He is not here to restore my light , unlike Lugh. He is here to tear it away slowly. As he speaks I find myself falling in and out of consciousness. I am weak and need to regain my strength so I can stop this and restore my light. I wake again alone. I walk to the goddesses room and take account of my body. I am terribly thin, my hair is dull, my face gaunt and my eyes sunken and red from lack of sleep. See, I knew this was coming. I was losing my light slowly, lack of motivation, lack of joy and lack of competence. In losing myself, I lost my light. Airmed comes in to give me more herbs and food. I sit at the mushroom in my room eyeing the food. Was it poisoned? Is this how they’ll put out my light for good? I see Aed stalk my room as if to catch me off guard. A nurse knocks. ‘you have visitors’ she exclaimed. The world went by in a blur as she dragged me to the visitor room. There they were my family. Lugh, Ériu, Airimid, Brigid, Aengus Óg and Lir. I listen as they tell me all the things that have gone on at home. How Aed is recruiting people for their war of Darkness. They said they need my light. However, I am too weak to be light again. Aed has such a strong hold on me.’ I will be good’, I repeat to myself . Lugh tells me of how the world is in ruin. How the good people of the light have been hiding and others have met their Fate. This would explain all the souls I saw leave the Éire last night . Such beautiful orbs of light that rise in the darkness. They spoke of how Aed had tried to drag the orbs down to the underworld with him. However, Lugh, Airimid and Aengus Óg had fought through the night to make sure the souls found the white light in the clouds. I was astonished and tired. I am weak. My soul needs rest so I can wage this war on Darkness. You all understand as Darkness’ sticky webs have touched my soul and only Danu and her divinity can help my soul heal and cast out the darkness that lies within me. The herbs are helping. The doctors say it may be weeks before my light is back. I can feel a flicker of light in my bones as I try to ignite. Lugh tells me not to try as I may drain my life force. I stop and listen to the stories of the outside world. I am told I will be in the Dian Cechts tree for another few weeks. I need it, I thought. I am alone with Lugh and his light. He exclaims I am just sick with Darkness. It has a strong hold of me and I will escape its grasps soon. I need it to be sooner. Lugh explains I am with the best people and in the best place. My light will be restored and when it is we shall defeat Aed. Darkness cannot touch me as I have Airmed and Dian Cecht looking after me here. Is this my fate? If I cannot ignite my light will I be condemned to a life of wandering? I try again, to spark my light. I fail and the world dims around me. I wake up in bed, it is dark outside. I try to block out the screams and fall back into my long slumber.
