VIOLET’s POV
Before I knew it, he kicked me to the ground and drove off, leaving me alone in tears. Weighed down by both the pain in my heart and the one in my sprained ankle, I drag my feet on the sidewalk. Lost in the middle of nowhere with no idea of how to get back home.
First, he abandons me for his lover on our anniversary, costs me my child and now, he calls me a slut and throws me out into the street? I shake my head, making up my mind once and for all. I can’t do this anymore. My fingers trembling, I dug into my purse for my phone and scrolled through my contacts—Attorney Evans.
“Good evening, Attorney.” My voice trembled and the tears wouldn’t stop spilling down my face and down my neck.
“Good evening mrs Ravenwood. Are you okay?”
I dragged in a sniff. “Please send over the divorce papers.”
“Are you sure, Miss?” Scepticism lingered in the Lawyer’s tone. “We have had this drafted out two months ago.”
I blink back the tears that stung my eyes. “Yes. I just realized it is time I live for myself.”
It wasn’t until after another thirty-minute walk that I was able to find a taxi willing to take me back but I wasn’t returning to the mansion. I planned on staying at Anna’s in the meantime. Being a year older, Anna Shire was not only a high school friend but a big sister figure.
The first time Adrian hit me two months ago, she had flared at his behaviour, insisting I call it quits with him and honestly, I wanted nothing more. I had grown up in a happy home until my father ran into debt to a mysterious Mr.G.
Not being able to pay back and having his life threatened, he sold all we had and that turned him into a drunk. He’d come back home with a w***e and hit my mother everytime. It was then that I made up my mind never to let a man treat me that way.
The next day after Adrian’s assault, I went straight to my Attorney with a bruised face. That was the first time I asked for the divorce papers drafted out. I was certain I wanted to end it because the last thing I wanted was to let history repeat itself and be a version of my mother.
While still in the Attorney’s office, I pulled out my phone to inform him of my decision but he had apologize for his actions before I could say a word.
That day, I abandoned the papers and let Adrian sweep me away into his world of lies wrapped in romantic dinners and expensive gifts but not anymore.
Letting out a heavy breath, I dialed his number and every ring felt like several eternities passing by.
“Yes? What the f**k do you want now?” He answered harshly on the other end.
I held my breath. “Adrian. I’m getting a divorce.” I blurted out.
He let out a long mocking chuckle. “Really now, Violet?” His voice came out taunting. “You may choose to run back to your sugar daddy but there’s no way in hell I’m letting you take my child away if that’s what you’re planning.”
I gulped, clenching my stomach. How empty it felt now. “I lost the pregnancy.”
“What?”
I had no idea if he felt the loss as much as I did. “Come to the office tomorrow for the signing. That shouldn’t be too difficult to do. Even for a man of your incompetence.”
“How dare you ungrateful little whor—“
I hung up before scrolling to messages on my phone and texted Anna……_the good news._
Anna welcomed me to her apartment with open arms. She worked as a detective and her pay was handsome enough to afford her a really lovely home which she was more than willing to let me in everytime.
The very next morning, I was dressed in my very best. A blue floral sundress and a light, all-natural makeup look. Anna had my hair done in large curls and let it fall down my shoulders, bouncing with every step I took.
The surprise on Adrian’s face that morning when he saw me walk into the Lawyer’s office was more than evident and he couldn’t even hide it. He had never seen me look so happy and feminine before which made his hands clench onto the seats in fury that I was already doing fine without him.
Going through the formal processes, we signed the documents and shook hands with the Attorney before leaving.
Walking out of the building, I hugged Anna tightly who had been waiting for me by her car.
“Congratulations girl! Wohoooo!!!” She cheered.
“I’m so happy, Anna. I feel like a burden has been lifted off my chest for good.” I blurted out, shaking with nerves.
“Come on darling. Let’s take that fine ass partyinggggg!!!!” She cheered me on loudly. “We need to celebrate this. Get in.”
“Oh, you bet I will.” I chuckled, sliding into the passenger’s seat beside her and strapping my seatbelt on as we both drove off into the distance.
Anna made my week memorable especially because she knew it would be my last in Los Angeles. I planned on leaving the city and start my life on a clean slate on my own two feet. Although, I had no idea how to but I hoped my talent would pave way for me.
That day, I had my luggage ready and was about to leave for the airport. With a tight hug, Anna wished me Goodluck and waved as I got into the taxi.
I drifted off to sleep shortly only to wake-up and realize the car was elsewhere! Alarmed, I sat up, leaning out the window. We were on an eerie looking abandoned road with nothing trees but on either side.
“Sir? Where are we?” I asked but he ignored me. “Where the f**k is this place? Stop this car right now!” I yelled out, banging at the windows.
Annoyed, he turned around, pulling out a gun at my face. I froze. “If you wanna live, you’ll keep that pretty mouth of yours shut! Understood?”
I nodded, my fingers trembling in fear.
Having no choice, I watched keep driving. Deeper and deeper into the unknown.
