Chapter 3

The sensation was horrible as he was dissolved. His stomach felt as if it was coming out of his mouth, dragging all his organs behind with it. His head felt like he had drunk a thousand gallons of brain freeze, and was freezing and melting at the same time. When he looked at his hand, it had become translucent and was distorted, and when he touched it, his hand went straight through, which terrified him. The world was pure white, which blinded him, even though he closed his eyes. A billion questions swirled in his head, but it was hard to tell them apart since his brain was a pure mishmash. He materialized in a bright, high-tech room which closely resembled a factory, but smaller, brighter and more advanced. He puked right in front of him. His brain slowly came into focus, and his questions got clearer. Where am I? What happened to me? What happened to Dexter? All these questions rushed into his mind. There was a tablet beside him, which revived a memory. The box had said that once he was inside, he would be issued with a tablet. Was he inside the game? How was he going to get out? Fear hit him hard. He must be in the real world, it could not be possible. He stood up to go outside, ignoring the tab sitting beside him, to search for a person to answer his questions, but fell down again, clutching his head because of a splitting headache. The pain was agonising, and the bright lights made it worse, but he managed to stand up and trot towards the door. The door slid open when he stepped in front of it. Outside was a lobby, which was brightly lit, but not as bright as the room. It was mostly bare, with a sofa to one side and a counter with a magnificent tabletop. There seemed to be no people there. Zane slowly walked towards the entrance, his hand still clutching his head. He noticed a handle on a cupboard behind the counter, which would have been almost invisible if it weren't for the handle. There must be something in there, something I could find useful. At least if I am lucky. Zane thought. He walked towards it. There didn't seem to be any visible way to get inside the counter, so he jumped over it and landed on the other side with a soft thud. Before he could stop himself, his hand reached out and grabbed open the cupboard, and he was amazed by what he saw inside it. There stood the most stunning weapon he had seen in his entire life. It was mostly white, with a black handle which was shaped like a hemisphere kept vertically and an electric blue trigger at the base. It had an oval shaped body with a black muzzle. An electric blue line ran through the middle, ending at a black disk in the center. Zane picked it up, he almost forgot his headache. He could feel its power just by holding it. It was a g*n from the future, it must be. But what was it doing here? These types of weapons have not been invented yet. Could he be in the future? Or was the estimation he had made before correct? Was he really in a game? The possibilities were endless. He aimed it towards the sofa and pushed what he thought was the trigger. What seemed to be a ball of electric energy exploded the sofa to smithereens, sending chips of wood flying in all directions and making burnt feathers float to the ground. Zane took the g*n with him for self protection, and walked towards the door. It also auto opened, just like the one in the room. The door slid open with a slight hum, and what he saw outside took his breath away. It was night time, but everything was lit so well that even the tiniest detail was visible. The roads were black, but there were white lines running through them, on which cars went on. They didn't have tyres, instead they floated about one foot in the air. Almost three quarters of the buildings here were majestic skyscrapers, dark blue in color. Zane felt dizzy just by looking at them. They certainly stood up to their name. As he looked up, Zane noticed that the sky was filled with spaceships. All of them had dark green stripes lining them, and the stripes seemed to be glowing. About a mile away, stood the tallest tower Zane had ever seen. It, too, had glowing green stripes running the entire length of it, vertically, unlike other skyscrapers, which had white lines. Zane wondered whether it was the house of the ruler here, or it could be a billionaire's apartment, since it was the odd one out. He also noticed that all the people here wore suits with the same green stripes running through them. In the middle of their chest was a black circle with a green border and two lines forming a plus sign in the middle. They all wore pitch black helmets that fitted perfectly, and their faces were covered by black visors which ran all the way down to their chins. All of them carried a g*n identical to the one Zane had. The only difference was the colours. His had electric blue lines but theirs were dark green. He was about to stop a car to ask someone where he was, when a spaceship descended in front of him and a person just like the people in the cars got out, a g*n sitting in his hands. "Can you please tell me wh–" "Identity yourself," the person interrupted, and pointed his g*n at him. "I'm Zane. I am not from here, and I haven't done anything wrong, " except stealing a g*n, which Zane thought that the owner wouldn't mind... "So it might be safe if you put that g*n down." Zane was pretending to put his g*n down. "Identification denied!" the person said in a fierce robotic voice. "The stranger must be execu–" a car raced towards the person and hit him so hard that he was thrown about ten meters away. The car turned around and raced towards him, Zane noticed that it had wheels, unlike the others. It was big, and had wheels, unlike the others. It didn't him him, or run over him, turning him into a human pulp. But it screeched to a halt next to him and the door opened. "Get in or die out here!" the driver cried. Zane hesitated for a precious second. The risk had to be taken. It doesn't matter if it was a trap, he would be dying anyway. So he got in.
