The car wasn't like any of those which he had seen. The vehicle was dark blue without any designs on it. The top and the windscreens were made out of glass, and it was one way, so that no one could look inside. The interior was amazing. There had two seats, and the front was equipped with a dozen buttons next to the steering wheel, each with a specific task. The gear in the middle had ten different speeds, and the seats were very soft and comfortable. The car was fully air conditioned.
The driver's suit was just like the one the person who came from the spaceship was wearing, but with electric blue stripes rather than green. Zane had come to the conclusion that the electric blue coloured things were good and the green things were bad. He was deep in thought when the driver's voice snapped him into reality.
"What were you doing over there!" His voice sounded like a boy. "Are you crazy?"
Instead of answering, Zane asked a question of his own. "Who are you?"
"I'm Alex, the person who saved your life and didn't get a single thank you."
"Oh, thanks," replied Zane. "Can I ask you something?"
"Sure," said Alex.
"Where am I? Is this the future, I mean like what year is it? "
Alex laughed slightly. "So, you aren't from the game. You must be a player, " he said, "There is no year here, nor is it the future. "
"What do you mean there's no year?" asked Zane.
"You're in a game," Alex replied, and then added. "Were you sleeping when you entered this? You surely must have noticed when you were sucked in. "
"Yes," said Zane, "but how is that possible? How can you enter a game? " Alex didn't answer, so Zane decided that he didn't know the answer to this question. But all his questions weren't answered yet, he had to get the answers, somehow.
"But who are you working for?" he asked. "Or are you alone? Where are you taking me, and why was that person going to kill me? Speak up will you! " Zane felt his anger bubbling underneath.
"Calm down," Alex said in a cool voice, "You'll find the answers to all your questions once you get there." Zane didn't like the way he said it. It made him feel uneasy, it seemed to have an evil tone in it.
The rest of the ride was speechless. Zane had the great urge to jump out of the car or tackle Alex, toss him out of the car and drive away. But both of these ideas were ridiculous. Firstly, if he jumped out of the car, he will certainly break a bone, and he will have no idea of where he is or where to go. The second idea was ridiculous because the car is very likely to crash when he tackles Alex, killing them both, even if he succeeded in making him unconscious. How could he drive a car so high tech, and where would he go? Zane had no choice but to stay put.
He stayed on full alert for any suspicious moves on the entire journey, which took no more than ten minutes. The vehicle came to a halt next to a steep hill. Zane thought that he saw a zigzag line forming a square at the bottom of the hill. Every rock seemed to end at a certain point. Others were cracked in the middle. But Zane shrugged it off.
"Uh, are we making camp here?" Zane asked.
"I don't think so," said Alex, and grinned at Zane. He couldn't help it. He pushed the middle of the steering wheel, where normally, there would be a horn, but no sound came. About five seconds later, a puff of smoke erupted from the ground around them. It wasn't a geyser. If it was, they would have been fried in seconds. The air became cold around them.
A square at the bottom of the hill started moving backwards. Small rocks and pebbles started falling down and scattering everywhere. A zigzag edged square was cut into the hill.
Zane's eyes grew wide. He had never seen such a thing. The hill was artificial, but it was almost impossible to tell. The square moved deeper into the hill, revealing what was inside.
The vehicle drove in, the smoke was obscuring their vision, but Alex seemed to know the way. He drove a few meters in and stopped. The smoke was whisked out of the chamber, revealing it to Zane.
It was a light blue circular chamber with white lights running through its entire circumference. A large circular base in the center was embossed at least half a foot above the ground, and a pathway connected it to the entrance.
Alex saw his expression and grinned. "Wait till you see this," he said, and clicked a button on the front panel. "All clear," he spoke in a loud and clear voice.
The base on which they were waiting started to descend into the ground. Zane started feeling trapped, the light above him got smaller and smaller. It kept on moving downwards for more than two minutes.
The tunnel ended, revealing a breathtaking underground city.
"Welcome," said Alex, "to the headquarters of the Resistance.
