Chapter four

1302 Words
JOCELYN’s POV… His breathe lingering on me, his huge kill for body pressed against mine, his hands on me, I couldn’t think of anything and the whole world seemed to go silent, letting me hear nothing but our heartbeats. “Alpha Kyros! Is all well?” I heard a guard ask from the outside. “You may leave.” He told the guard and I heard the sound of a sword being tucked in the sheathe before he left. He pulled away from me as he saw me and nodded. “You want to get killed?” He asked me and I bowed as I shook my head. “Don’t you know walking into the Alpha’s personal tent the way you did is punishable by death?” He asked me and I froze. Did he just save me again? What was this man and why did he keep saving me even when I had done nothing but be rude to him? “I was told that I would be your personal maid and….” “Still doesn’t give you the right to walk in the way you did.” He told me coldly and I swallowed as he started to get dressed. Not wanting to see more than I had already, I turned till he was finished. I wanted nothing to do with him. I hated the man so much so why did I shudder under his touch and why did I feel this way when I was around him? I shook my head, it was nothing. It was probably just a plan of his to get me to sleep with him and I wouldn’t. “I..I don’t want to work for you.” I told him when he had finally finished changing and his brows knitted as he stared at me. “It wasn’t a request, little one. It was an order, but don’t worry, I won’t try anything funny.” He told me as he started to move closer to me, so close that I felt myself unable to move. I clenched my fists as he stopped in front of me and then with him leaning my way, I got a chance to observe his facial features and what drew me in the most were his eyes. Those dark orbs had something, not something sinister, but rather something that could keep you lost in them for a very long time. He sighed as he blinked, causing me to snap out of my thoughts. “It’s the full moon tomorrow, there’ll be many shifters and of course, many will get their wolves. Rogues will be around every corner and there are sides to people you might not want to see so I’ll give you a little break.” He told me and I stared at him, trying to understand the kind of man that he was. “Break?” He walked to his table as he handed me a tray that contained food and I swallowed at it. From yesterday till now, all I had were fruits from close to the stream but they didn’t really help. Did he know this? “Come eat. You can resume your work as my personal maid the day after tomorrow, but till then, everyone can think you worked for me. I have made strict instructions that you shall only work outside my tent when…” Was he trying to sway me with this? Hell no! I couldn’t be swayed by this rubbish he was pulling off. “I am not interested. I do not want to work for you and I do not want your favors. I also do not want your food because who knows…. It might have been laced with something and then what? Once you get me in your bed, you throw me out?” Tears welled up in my eyes as I recalled those horrible things. “I know the likes of you, Alpha Kyros and I am not going to fall for this. Not ever.” I told him and with every word I said, I could see ‘hurt’ in his eyes. For a moment there, I felt a pang of guilt for saying those things but then recalling what his family had done to me when I was so much more younger, I didn’t feel as much guilt. He kept the tray on the bed as he turned his back to me. “You may leave. You shall only return here when I have called for you.” He told me and for some reason, I felt hurt hearing him say this. I wiped the tears that were streaming down my cheeks as I bowed before rushing out of his tent. Why did I feel hurt that my words perhaps hurt him? Did I feel something for him? I shrugged that thought of immediately. It was impossible. I hated the man and there was no way I could feel anything for him. Like he had told me, I didn’t do any work outside of his tent and no one called me for any other work and I could tell that my tent mates hated me for this. The day passed by so quickly and I hadn’t seen Alpha Kyros around and for some reason, I wanted to see him badly. It was night time already and it had been a whole day since I last saw Alpha Kyros. It was the full moon and I could see many shifting to their wolves, howling and seeing this, tears welled up in my eyes. “Oh, Lyra. Where are you? I want to have you back.” More tears welled up in my eyes as I watched even my tent mates transform while we were outside and when I could no longer take it, I decided to return to the tent. It was no use crying over watching people shift. As I made my way back to the tent, I started to notice something in the bushes, closer to the stream and the woods. I didn’t want to go there for the fear or rogues, but something in me, a huge part of me insisted I went there and with fear, I took slow steps towards the moving bushes. I swallowed as I kept going and suddenly, out of no where, two wolves jumped out of the bushes, causing me to gasp in terror. They seemed to be in a fight and as much as I wanted to run, I felt rooted to the spot. The white wolf seemed to be violent because in no time, he snapped the other, causing him to turn to his human form before his death and I gasped as I made to turn to run, my body not co-operating. I gulped in fear as I remained rooted to the spot, the white wolf gnarling as he turned to me. Fear surged through all of me as I thought of being killed by this white dangerous wolf, but the moment we locked eyes, I felt all the fear disappear. He stopped gnarling the moment he saw me and became somewhat….. relaxed. I didn’t know what was going on with me but I suddenly found the strength to move closer to him, even touching his fur and the moment I did that, I heard bones snap and next thing I knew, he returned to his human form and it was none other than Alpha Kyros! Blood stained, he crashed into my body, almost sending me falling to the ground and I gasped as his hands snaked around me. “Don’t leave me, please….” He muttered and somehow, I didn’t want to. There had to be something about this man that was pulling me to him and I had to find out what it was.
