chapter 9: The breaking Point

363 Words
The city lights blur outside the car window as Alex's driver takes them back to his penthouse. The tension between them is thick, the weight of Isla's decision hanging over them like a storm cloud. Isla twists her fingers in her lap, glancing at Alex. His jaw is clenched, his hands in tight fists on his thighs. He hasn't said much since she told him about Paris, and the silence is suffocating. Finally, she breaks it."Say something." His eyes flicks to her, a storm brewing in their depths."What do you want me to say, Isla?" " I don't know," she admits, voice softer now." just...tell me how you feel." He exhales sharply, running a hand through his hair." You already know how I feel." Her heart clenches." Then why do I feel like you're pulling away?" His jaw tightens."Because I don't want to be the reason you give up your dreams." She stares at him." And i don't want to be the reason you stop believing in us." The car slows as they reach the building, but neither of them moves. The tension has shifted, something raw crackling between them. Then, suddenly, Alex moves. He reaches for her, gripping her face in his hands before crashing his lips to hers. The kiss is desperate, filled with every unspoken emotion. She clings to him, matching his urgency, her hands tangling in his hair. "I don't want to lose you," he murmurs against her lips, his forehead pressing to hers. She breaths him in, her heart hammering."Then don't." His fingers dig into her waist, pulling her onto his lap. The world outside disappears as they drown in each other, lips, hands, bodies pressing together with aching need. They barely make it upstairs before he has her against the wall, his mouth tracing fire down her neck."You're mine, Isla," he growls, voice rough with emotion. She gasps, pulling him closer."Always ." That night, they don't just make love-- they fight for each other with every touch, every kiss, every whispers promise. But as down creeps through the curtain, Isla wonders.... is love enough to keep them together, or is this just the calm before the storm?
