CHAPTER 9 – GETTING READY

1243 Words
*Sianna POV* Curtis hasn’t spoken to me since our last phone call. Could it be due to his guilty conscience, or maybe he had found his mate? I would have been here thinking that he was on a special assignment or having some family ordeal going on if my dad did not let me know that he attended the mating ceremony. Hailey is very loyal and would spill the beans when she came back. I preferred to see her first before having a confrontation with Curtis. I needed to know the fullness of what she was aware of. Hailey’s morning text read: I wish you were here Sianna (heart emoji). Me: I know that you are having fun regardless of me not being there with you (smiley face emoji). Honey, go find your mate and bring him back with you. Hailey: (crying face emoji) Don’t you miss me, or are you doing naughty things with your mate? Me: Stop! I won’t let him touch me. Go have fun, Hailey. I was lying on the couch in my living room watching the news. My mind was distracted by the personal affairs of my life to hear much of anything. I was thinking of wearing a green crop top with my white Dereon jeans, nothing fancy, although I wanted him to lust after me. I was toying with the idea. Mom was on duty back at the hospital and dad flew out to Mexico for business. Being an only child can be boring sometimes. I went on social media to check the latest posts when the doorbell rang. I wasn’t expecting visitors. “Good morning, Sianna.” The familiar but husky voice greeted me at the door. “Hi Gamma Blayne,” I noticed how well styled he was dressed but his brown hair was disheveled. He licked his lips and smiled. “I brought you something for tonight.” He handed me a black hanging garment bag and winked at me. What in the world is he doing? Am I supposed to wear whatever was in that bag? I nodded without letting my thoughts be known to him. “It’s in one of your favorite colors. I know you will look your best tonight.” As he left he shouted, “Pick you up at six!” I looked around outside to see if any nosey neighbor was peeping out to watch who was at my door. I forgot that Brenda, my Miss Gossip friend from high school, would be at the mating ceremony too. Thank goodness. Closing the front door, I anxiously opened the bag to see the concealed apparel and gasped in astonishment. This was too over the top. ‘Mate loves us!’ my wolf purred in my head. It was a white sleeveless lace floral pattern elegant cocktail dress at knee length. The shoulder area above the breast was transparent to the skin as well as from the thigh to the knee. Where on earth were we going? I admit that I loved it. I took it upstairs to hang in my closet and thought about my hair. Some more curls might be good with a few highlights because I wanted to give him a look that he had never seen me in before. I am going all out for my date with my mate because a woman should always make a guy sweat over her. The golden rule was to flaunt what you’ve got but don’t give it to just anyone. I took out my makeup kit and laid them on the vanity dresser. Fun was the name of the game tonight. I am not going to sleep with him, but I want to see what’s he’s like when he is not fulfilling his pack duties. The doorbell rang again and I wondered if that was Gamma Blayne coming back to annoy me. I rolled my eyes and ran down the stairs while almost tripping. This time it was a surprise visitor. He was looking good today in comparison to when he was at the clinic. “Hi Sianna,” He nervously scratched the back of his neck. “I hope that I am not disturbing you but I was passing through and just wanted to say thanks for everything yesterday. I am feeling much better and they want me to try out for a warrior position on Monday.” “Matt, I am happy to hear that!” I smiled, genuinely happy for him. “Our Gamma is the best.” “It’s just that I am new here and don’t have any friends yet. I promise not to be a bother, but I hope you don’t mind if I wanted to have a conversation with you sometime.” “Sure. Why not?” Behind him was an Iron 883 Harley-Davidson bike. “Nice ride.” “Oh,” He realized I liked the motorcycle. “You know your bikes! Sweet!” “I have an uncle who owns an entire store.” I related “He used to ride me around on them when I visited. I fell in love with motorcycles from him but my dad was against me owning any.” “I could give you a ride sometime and maybe teach you how to ride it.” He said shakily. I smiled at the offer. If he knew who my mate was he wouldn’t be trying to get this close to me. “Maybe.” The stronger the werewolf was, the more possessive they were about their mates. The idea enticed me. My dad would have my head if he found out. “I am glad that you are settling down well. I am sure you will make more friends later down. I’ll even introduce you to my friends when they get back.” The awkward silence was too much to bear, so he said. “Right, so thanks again. I will see you around.” I watched him drive off and prayed that on one else would visit me for the day. People always wanted to be my friend. You would think that I am an alpha’s daughter. My dad was from a beta bloodline and my mom was from an alpha who died. I only have my grandma on her side and then my other grandparents on my dad’s side of the family. Hailey always told me that I am too nice, so I guess that’s why I hate fighting. Don’t get me wrong, I can defend myself, but it should be a last resort to hit someone. Hailey’s brother was the Beta Duke Smithson of this pack. He’s the second in command to our alpha. She was a troublesome child who had me missing classes and breaking curfews, and sneaking out to the forest past our bedtime. We had many moonlight dates and fire camping outdoors in the forest. I have been grounded too many times from ventures where Hailey was the ring leader. But the adventures that we did were the kind that left beautiful memories, especially with the pranks we played on our teachers. My beeping phone with an incoming message from Curtis grabbed me back to reality. My heart skipped a beat as I opened it up to read it. Curtis: Hey babes, it’s been a rough couple of days but I finally get to come home to you tomorrow. I truly love you, no matter what. I scoffed.
