Chapter 12

Caelum bristled at the way this witch spoke to Silas. While he may not have been a big fan, all alphas should be respected. “Alpha Caelum, nice of you to join us,” Ethan said, hoping to diffuse the growing tension. Caelum nodded, “Darien, Mayreen. Elyndra, surely you would show your sister and her mate more respect, especially in their home?” He continued. He wanted yo make her uncomfortable, he was irritated that the Goddess had given him a second chance mate. He was so irritated that he didn’t notice everyone in the circle stiffen. But he did catch the hard tone and cold glare at Grace from Elyndra as she spoke. “Respect is earned, not given. You do not get respect simply due to a title,” she turned to Caelum and the look she gave him had him furrowing his brows, “For future reference, Alpha Caelum, my only family is my brother, Ethan. Now if you’ll excuse me,” she gave Ethan a quick squeeze as she turned to leave. He watched her with a frown. Grace cleared her throat, “Please excuse her, Alpha Caelum. She doesn’t have much pack interaction,” Ethan rolled his eyes, “Don’t be afraid to say it Grace, most everyone knows. Our parents, you, and Eva all disowned her. Own it,” he grabbed a glass of scotch from an omega. Darien pulled Mayreen close, “Ethan is right. Silas, we have worked well together for a long time, but don’t forget it if it wasn’t for Elyndra I wouldn’t have found Mayreen. That alone holds a lot of weight,” Caelum caught that there was an underlying meaning to the words. Caelum kept his eyes on Elyndra as she moved through the crowd. The only pack member she spoke to, he noticed, was Gamma Dylan. Outside of that she spoke to many others from different packs. She held herself high, gracious. He scowled, he was irritated that she reminded him of a Luna. He already had one, and he wasn’t ready to replace her. Caelum downed a glass of bourbon when she reached Killian and Lucy. He hoped she could help them, he wanted the best for them but he couldn’t help hoping she would fail. He watched them walk outside. He turned into the conversation around him. Elyndra showed Killian and Lucy to the garden in the back. There was a fountain in the middle surrounded by pink roses. Grace’s favorite flowers. “Come have a seat,” she walked around looking for the perfect blooming rose. Once she picked it she walked back to them, “Hold out your hands together,” she fixed them so Lucy’s hand rested on top of Killian’s, palm face up. She smiled softly at them, “This is nothing crazy, tell me how you met and how life has been,” She focused on the flower as Lucy lit up, “It was actually quite funny! We’re in the same pack but weren’t in the same circles so we never really ran into each other. It wasn’t until a few years ago, I was dropping something by off for the previous Luna when I ran into him,” Killian smirked and added, “I actually thought I was going crazy. I could smell her scent everywhere. It was always faint and I could never find it. Until one day when it was much stronger than it had ever been,” Elyndra smiled, “You know, some say the way we meet our mate is a sign of what it could like it. I’d say the Goddess did that so you would know you guys could get through anything, with patience,” “Have you met yours?” Lucy asked innocently. Killian and Elyndra stiffened. Elyndra nodded, “It didn’t work out,” Lucy frowned and wanted to ask more but stopped herself when Killian whispered in her mind. Elyndra frowned as she watched the rose wither away. “You said you’re from the same pack?” Killian answered, “Yes. Is everything okay?” Worried laced his voice. She dusted their hands and nodded. She stepped back and they gripped each others hand. “I can confirm that the doctors and healers are correct. There is nothing medically wrong with either of you,” Lucy’s face fell. “But I have a couple questions,” “Anything,” Killian said as he held Lucy. “Are you the only ones struggling to conceive in your pack?” They glanced at each other before Lucy said softly, “No, there are others,” “Are they from the pack as well? Or from different packs?” “From our pack. The women who have moved to our pack, seem to be able to conceive without… struggle,” Elyndra took a step toward them and grabbed their hands. She wanted them to feel her honesty. “I’m fairly certain I can help. I just need to speak with Caelum. I’ll be by tomorrow afternoon with some supplies okay?” Lucy’s eyes watered, “Really?” Elyndra nodded and Lucy hugged her tight. “Please if there’s anything we can do, let us know,” Elyndra wasn’t going to ask for anything, she never did. But Killian was a Beta. “Actually, I do have a question,” Elyndra asked softly. They waited patiently for her to continue. “Killian, have you heard or seen any reports of a silver eyed rogue?”
