Chapter 7: Killian

Killian had been a bit anxious driving to Beta Ethan’s sisters home, it was on the outskirts of the pack, very near the borderlines. He could not find out much information about her, Gamma Dylan had been gone all day and he didn’t want to raise any suspicions. He was surprised to find such a small woman answer the door. He actually blushed as he noticed her sleep wear, he didn’t want to be improper around an unmated female. But her eyes had caught his attention, they were a beautiful dark brown but filled with such sadness. He noticed the tear stains on her cheek. And he didn’t expect her voice to be so soft and calming. He cleared his throat, “I’m sorry, ma’am. Um are you Elyndra? Beta Ethan said I could come by,” She looked puzzled, “Ethan sent you?” He nodded, “I’m sorry, if this is a bad time I can come back a different day,” She shook her head and stepped aside, “No, no. Please come in, I’ll set up some tea and check my phone,” He thanked her and walked in. Her home smelled of lavender, eucalyptus, cardamom. It was warm and cozy. She had just started a fire. “Please take a seat on the couch or something, I’ll be right there,” Elyndra called from the kitchen. He did as he was told, his body automatically relaxing, which had him straightening up again. She came back a few minutes later, she had thrown on a hoodie on and had a tray with some tea, condiments, and cookies. “I apologize, it - it has been a difficult day and I haven’t talked with my brother. I’ll call him after, he’s worried since he hasn’t heard from me. Please relax, we’re safe here” Killian cleared his throat, a bit unnerved, “Please don’t take offense Ms. Greene, but are you normally this friendly with strangers?” He watched her face sour, “Elyndra, please. And yes, you wouldn’t have made it past the gate if there were any ill intentions. My wards are very strong,” “Do you mind if I ask a few more questions?” Her sour face didn’t help relax him. She nodded as she pour them tea and fixed hers the way she liked it. “Why do you live all the way out here? You are still part of the pack, yes?” She took a deep breath, “I’ve lived here since I was 16, with my grandma until she passed away a few years ago. She left me this little home along with many other things. Yes, I am still part of this pack,” she looked down at her cup. “Why don’t you go to pack events? I have been here for almost four months and haven’t seen you around,” “The pack isn’t very fond of me, so I try to stay away. I usually go if Ethan asks me to,” He was quiet as he watched her, feeling the sadness roll from her, “Is that why no one mentions you either?” Her eyes snapped to his and his were honest as he softly said, “Everyone, even the Beta family, only ever says they have two daughters, Grace and Eva. When asked about you, they change the subject,” “No one wants ties to the wolf who has no wolf,” she whispered. He felt he could trust her so he relaxed a bit, “I have heard whispers that you may be more than just a wolf-less wolf,” She gave him a side smile, “I am also a witch. Witchblood runs through the Greene bloodline as strongly as wolfblood. The witch just happened to overpower the wolf with me,” “But you still have wolf DNA in you?” “Yes,” she laughed lightly, “that is how genetics work. Just because both parents have blue eyes, does not mean their child can’t have brown ones,” Killian blushed, that was basic science but why did the pack not see that? He took a sip of tea. “Ethan mentioned in his text that you and your mate have been having some troubles?” He leaned on his knees, looking into his cup, “Yes, we’ve been trying to conceive but have not had any luck. We’ve gone to doctors and healers and they all verify that nothing is wrong, but they have to be wrong don’t they?” He looked to her with such defeat. Elyndra put her cup down, “Perhaps, perhaps not. Doctors and healers know a lot, have they given you any remedies, any helpful suggestions for conceiving?” He shook his head sadly, “There’s nothing wrong, so there’s nothing to look for, so there’s nothing to fix,” “What prompted Ethan to send you to me?” Killian gave her a nervous smile and chuckled in his seat, “I may have been a little pushy with your healer when looking for a better answer. He hinted that there may be someone who could help, but he was awfully tight lipped. I reached out to my Alpha, where your brother is, and well here I am,” A worried look crossed her face as she very firmly said, “Alpha Caelum didn’t do any harm to Ethan to get you your answers did he?” Killian’s eyes widened, “No, no. I promise. I know Alpha Caelum has a reputation, but he wouldn’t have hurt Beta Ethan,” “I should hope not. I am very fond of him,” she smiled to let him know all was good. “Will your mate be joining the alpha and my brother on their return?” Killian’s expression because wistful, “Yes, I really can’t wait to see her. I’ve missed her so much and she’s having a really hard time right now,” he frowned. Elyndra finished her tea and out of nerves from hearing him talk about his mate, she pulled her hair into a hight bun, “I would like to meet her. I think seeing you two together would be helpful in figuring out if I can help you,” He finished his tea, “Do you really - is that a mark on your neck?” His eyes narrowed. Elyndra froze. She forgot about her mark, it was almost invisible to her, that she barely even thought of it anymore. Killian had noticed the way the light of the fire flickered off of the imprint. “A mated female should not -“ “No,” Elyndra interrupted firmly, starling him, “a wolf seeking my help will not come into my home and tell me what I should or should not be doing,” her hard gaze didn’t leave his. “My apologies, Elyndra. You are right, I got ahead of myself. I truly did not mean to disrespect you or your home,” his apology was sincere and she accepted it.
