“Kyler,” I mutter, opening the door to find him standing there, looking apologetic for showing up so late. He explains that he would have gone to his brothers, but they’re with his grandfather and not drinking. But I cut him off with a soft smile, telling him it’s okay and inviting him inside.
My eyes flick to the bottle of whiskey in his hand as he steps through the doorway. We make our way to the living area, and I suggest I go grab some glasses.
When I return with them, I sit beside him, and we settle on the couch. Kyler asks me what time I left his house, apologizing for not returning earlier, but I reassure him it’s fine. I mention that his older brother came by to let me know he had passed out.
