I open my mouth to respond to Mrs. Steel, not even sure if I should just say okay or that I will tell Kyler but before the words can leave my mouth, the call disconnects, leaving me sitting there with the phone against my ear for a second before what she says registers.
My heartbeat immediately speeds up as I turn to Kyler, calling out his name. I shake him and his eyes snap open. “What?” he says with a groggy voice from sleep without moving and I tell him his mother just called, causing sleep to immediately dissipate.
