“Ky-ler… I didn’t… I didn’t want you to...” my mother stammers, taking trembling steps toward me while my grandmother rushes past me crying, but she doesn’t get to finish as I take long strides toward her and meet her halfway.
“I’m so sorry, Mom,” I choke out, engulfing her in a hug, and she breaks down in my arms while my heart shatters to a thousand tiny pieces as everything I heard replays in my mind. How can people be such monsters? “I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to hear that. I didn’t want to burden you with this.” Mom chokes out with a broken voice, but I hold her tighter, telling her someone had to know.
