Chapter 3: Exploring New Areas

1140 Words
**Emma** For the next few days, I tried to go back to my usual routine, but everything seemed hazy. My apartment, which used to be my safe place, now felt like it was closing in on me. Every part of it made me think of Marcus and Susanne, and the city outside felt overwhelming and uncaring towards my sadness. I attempted to keep myself busy with tasks and hanging out with friends, but I couldn't get rid of the persistent feeling about Nick. I didn't understand why he had affected me so much. Even though he was a stranger who was only around briefly, I couldn't stop thinking about the times we spent together. His distant attitude and intense blue eyes stood out in my world of hurt and lies. Three days later, I went for a walk to try and clear my head. I found myself at a quaint café, with comfy, mismatched furniture and a welcoming barista who knew everyone. I sat by the window with my coffee, watching people as they went about their day. While I was sipping my coffee, I received a text from Angela saying, "Just wanted to see how you're doing. I'm still concerned about you. Can we have a chat soon?" I let out a sigh, realizing that I couldn't keep ignoring her forever. I answered with a quick "Yes, we can chat tomorrow." Feeling more relaxed after talking to Angela, I chose to take a walk in the neighborhood. I ended up in a bookstore and got lost in the books on the shelves. I have always found comfort in books, using them as a way to escape into new worlds. I recently grabbed a novel and started reading, hoping to get lost in its story. --- **Nick** I had lots of meetings and had to make decisions every day. Even though I was really busy, I couldn't stop thinking about Emma. This was something new for me. I used to be good at separating different parts of my life, keeping my feelings and wants organized. However, Emma broke through those barriers. I focused on work, going to meetings with investors, and taking care of all the tasks that come with running a business. But sometimes, when things were calm, I couldn't help but think about her—her eyes, her voice, and how she had opened up to me. It was strange for me to have these feelings for someone I didn't really know. I was in the middle of a very important meeting when my phone suddenly vibrated. I received a message from a news app about a charity event happening in our area. One part of the story interested me, so I decided to read it later. After the meeting, I went back to my office and tried to stop thinking about Emma. I had to keep my attention, but I couldn't shake the memory of her sitting at the bar, staring at me. --- **Emma** The following day, I phoned Angela. She seemed anxious, and her worry showed in how she sounded. I understood that I couldn't keep the truth hidden forever, but I wasn't prepared to tell everything just yet. I explained to her that I was going through some personal problems and needed time to think. Angela understood, even though she seemed curious. We decided to meet again soon, and I assured her that I would share more when I felt ready. After our phone call, I chose to change my strategy. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to do something about it. I attended the charity event that Nick had talked about in his article. It was a big event to help local youth programs, hoping to take a break from my thoughts and do something good. The place was lively, with lots of well-dressed people. I walked around, trying to soak up the fun atmosphere. The room had a nice atmosphere with beautiful decorations and calming music that helped me forget about my worries. While looking at an item in the silent auction, I heard someone I knew calling my name, "Emma?" I looked over and saw Nick standing there, dressed up in a nice suit. It was a surprise to see him, and it took me a moment to realize he was there. "Nick," I said, feeling surprised to see him in this place. "I didn’t think I would see you here," he said with a small smile. "I attend these events every now and then. You know, work stuff." I agreed, trying to stay calm. "I'm here to help the cause. It felt like a nice way to take my mind off things." "It looks like you're doing well," Nick mentioned, his eyes looking into mine with intensity. I felt my heart race as we talked and I found myself really enjoying his company. He still seemed distant, but there was a change in him. Maybe it was the place we were in or how he talked more openly without being drunk. We discussed the charity, life, and to my surprise, he shared a little about his job. --- **Nick** Talking to Emma made me realize how much I had missed seeing her. Even though I usually keep my distance, she had a knack for getting my attention. She stood out at the charity event, appearing a bit out of place but still managing to fit in with everyone. As we chatted, I could see her passion for the cause shining through, showing her true interest. Her appearance at the bar was completely different from what she showed on the outside. I felt curious about her and wanted to learn more about the emotions hidden in her eyes. After our conversation, she smiled at me, and I couldn't stop thinking about her ever since we met briefly. I suggested accompanying her to the door, and while we walked, I couldn't help but feel like running into her again was not just by chance. There was something special about her that made me want to change my usual routine. --- **Emma** After the charity event, walking out with Nick made me feel a mix of emotions. The night had been a nice break, and seeing him again brought up feelings I couldn't quite figure out. He still seemed mysterious and distant, but I felt a surprising bond that I couldn't overlook. After saying goodbye, I couldn't stop thinking about the potential for something new as I walked to my car. Was it just a quick moment in a bunch of puzzling things? As I drove home, I couldn't stop thinking about Nick and everything that had happened recently. I was certain that this meeting had made me feel different, and I wasn't willing to forget about it just yet. ---
