**Emma**
The morning after the fundraiser, I felt uneasy. I couldn't shake off the memories of Nick's
bright blue eyes and the brief moments we had together. His gaze at the event hinted at
something more, but in the light of day, I was reminded of my busy and hectic life.
I went through my morning routine without really paying attention to the taste of my coffee or
the sound of my apartment's heater. My phone beeped with a message from Angela,
reminding me of our planned chat later in the day.
I had been avoiding talking to her, not wanting to tell her everything that was bothering me,
but I realized I couldn't wait any longer. I had to face my emotions and try to see things from
a different point of view.
I quickly ate breakfast and then went to a nearby park to take my mind off things. The fresh
air in the morning made me feel alive, and the peacefulness of the park was a welcome
change from the busy thoughts in my head.
I strolled without a purpose, following the beat of my feet. The park was quiet, with only a
couple of people running and walking their dogs. I spotted a seat under a big oak tree and
decided to sit, trying to relax my thoughts.
While I was sitting, I couldn't stop thinking about Nick. He showed up at the charity event
unexpectedly, but it felt right. He had a way of making everything else seem less important,
like he was the most important person in the room.
I remembered how his eyes looked gentle when he talked to me, which was very different
from how he usually acted. It made me curious if he felt the same way about our meeting as
I did.
As I thought more about him, I realized how much I wanted to get to know him better. I was
never interested in other people's secrets, but Nick was special. He had something
mysterious about him that intrigued me, like a puzzle I couldn't ignore.
However, I understood that being with someone like him could bring about problems I wasn't
prepared for.
More people were coming into the park, so I thought it was a good idea to leave. Angela
texted me about our meeting once more, making me sigh as I prepared for our talk. Angela
was great at listening, but she always managed to ask more probing questions than I
expected.
When we caught up at a small café later on, Angela seemed really worried. We gave each
other a quick hug before taking a seat. She looked concerned when she asked, "How are
you doing, Emma?"
I paused, taking a sip of my coffee before answering, "I'm not doing great," I confessed. "It's
been tough lately, but I'm handling it."
Angela looked straight at me. "I can tell you're holding back some information."
"Lately, you seem a bit distant. Is there something on your mind that you'd like to talk
about?"
I found it hard to control my feelings. I wasn't prepared to share with her about Nick or how
much I liked him, but I couldn't pretend either. "I've been going through a lot. My relationship
with Marcus ended, and it's been hard getting used to it."
Angela showed understanding by nodding and said, "I feel bad for you. It's tough going
through a breakup. But it seems like you want to make progress. That's a positive move."
We kept chatting, and even though I didn't share everything, the talk made me feel a little
better. Angela's comforting help made me feel better, and I understood that even if I didn't
feel like talking a lot, she would be there for me.
When we said goodbye, I felt a little bit relieved. I had told her enough to feel a bit lighter.
However, while I was heading home, I found myself thinking about Nick once more. The
charity event had changed things, and I couldn't stop thinking about how he affected me.
I tried to go back to my usual routine over the next few days. I stayed occupied with work
and hanging out with friends to distract myself from thinking about Nick.
However, even though I tried, I couldn't help but be reminded of him when I visited the café,
the bookstore, and the bar where we first met. It felt like these places now had a special
meaning, a link to the short but powerful times we spent together.
One day, I went back to the bookstore that had brought me comfort before. I thought that
getting lost in a good book might help me feel better. I walked around and found a novel that
caught my eye. I sat in a quiet spot and started reading.
As I was reading my book, I heard the store's entrance bell ring. When I glanced up, I was
surprised to see Nick walking in. My heart raced, and I tried to act normal, hoping he
wouldn't see me. But destiny had different ideas.
Nick saw me right away and approached with a small smile. "Hey, Emma," he said. "Nice to
see you here."
I raised my head from my book, feeling a blend of excitement and nervousness. "Nick."
"I was surprised to see you," he said with a shrug, trying to hide any strong feelings behind
his relaxed attitude. "I visit this place frequently."
"It's a nice spot to relax. How about you?" I replied, casually mentioning that I was looking for
something different. I always find solace in books.
Nick agreed, and we chatted effortlessly about the writers and types of books we love. It was
nice to catch up with him, and our conversation flowed naturally, making me feel relaxed. I
was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked hanging out with him.
While we talked, I saw that Nick was calmer than he was at the charity event. He still
seemed a bit distant, but he also seemed genuinely interested in our chat. He seemed like
he was trying to bond with me on a deeper level.
Our talk soon turned to more personal subjects. I ended up sharing my recent challenges
and how I was working on moving forward from the past. Nick paid close attention as we
talked, providing comfort with his mere presence even though he didn't give much advice.
Before we said goodbye, Nick mentioned he would be going to another charity event and
invited me to come along. Interested in getting to know him better, I accepted his invitation,
excited to see where our relationship could go.
Leaving the bookstore, I couldn't stop thinking about our talk. Nick showing up in my life was
confusing yet exciting. I knew I had to be cautious, but the idea of exploring our connection
was too tempting to resist.
In the evening, I sat in my apartment, feeling the quietness around me. It used to be cozy,
but now it felt heavy. I couldn't stop pondering about Nick and how he was affecting me. It
was obvious that he was becoming important to me, and I was both excited and nervous
about what was to come.
The day after, I got ready for the charity event feeling both excited and nervous. I wanted to
spend time with Nick to get to know him better and figure out my own feelings. While getting
ready, I had a strong feeling that something big was about to happen.
My life had suddenly changed, and even though I didn't know what would happen next, I was
prepared to embrace whatever came my way with positivity.
