Chapter 4

Poppy's P.O.V The sunlight peeked through the large window above the king-sized bed. I groaned with dissatisfaction, rolling over to be closer to my mate. It's empty. My eyes quickly opened and I listened for any noise from my mate. there was nothing but silence. I blinked a few times and stared at the digital clock. It was just after seven. I groaned and sat upright, slowly making my way to the bathroom. I was still sore from last night's activities. I took it as a sign that I was not imagining things, and last night truly happened. The thought of being with my mate in such a way made me giddy as I hopped in the shower. The warm water helped soothe my muscles as I got myself ready for the full day of training ahead. Once I finished my shower I changed into a tight white sports bra and black biker shorts. I wore my favourite white sneakers my father got me. I took a deep breath and went down to the packhouse kitchen for some breakfast. The Packhouse kitchen was alive with life. Members were swarming all over the place, helping themselves to the buffet breakfast. I watched the long lineup and shrugged, going instead for a banana and a cup of coffee. I sat at one of the smaller tables in the dining area and ate my breakfast. I scrolled through my phone for any updates on the news or things to share with Danielle. "Hey Poppy! mind if I sit?" I looked up to see Jacob, already placing his tray down as he smiled at me. Jacob sat across from me at the table and began eating his breakfast. "Ready for training today?" His eyes sparkled as he grinned at me. Jacob was a few years older than I was and he was a very advanced fighter. He spoke about his battles with many of our enemies over our conversation the night before. "I sure hope so." I smiled sheepishly. I had never even been in a fight before. Much less won a fight. I finished my banana and sat holding my coffee in both hands. I didn't know what training today would consist of. And frankly,  that terrified me. "I heard future Alpha Ashton is a hard ass." Jacob teased me with a mouth full of toast. I looked at him with an eyebrow c****d while I sipped my coffee. "I didn't know he was training us." I spoke quietly and looked out the window onto the large field. Jacob had been invited by our Pack to train with us, so he could bring our methods back to our ally Pack. Jacob looked at me and tilted his head slightly before changing the subject. It wasn't long before it was time for training to begin. The large field on the back of the packhouse became littered with people waiting for the training to begin. Since I was so new, I was stationed more to the front and next to Jacob. I made light jumps and shook my hands, preparing myself for the rigorous training ahead. Meanwhile, I was attempting to ignore the girls gossiping behind me. I watched as The future Alpha made his way to the front of the group. He was wearing a tight white tank top and a pair of loose sweat pants. I went bright red and looked away as I thought about how good he looked. "I'm future Alpha Ashton, And I'll be your instructor today." His loud voice bellowed causing the group to become silent. "The person to your right is your partner." I looked to my right and sighed with relief as Jacob grinned at me. The training session lasted over three hours and left my body incredibly sweaty. I was bent over gasping for breath as the other training members began their way back into the Packhouse. I lifted my head and noticed Ashton smirking at me. "What?" "Nothing, Rookie." He laughed and began walking past me. I reached out and grabbed his arm, causing him to stop in his tracks. "So since you're my mate and everything do you wanna do... something?"I watched Ashton as his eyes grew dark by just the single touch. I felt the electricity flowing through my hand as well as he looked down at my hand then back up to my face. His thick eyebrows furrowed as he watched me. "I don't need a mate, Rookie" He shrugged my hand off of him and casually made his way back to the Packhouse. I watched him in shock. So that's it? He can't do this to me, I'm his mate!  Anger bubbled in my stomach as I watched how leisurely he walked away from me. A low growl escaped my chest as I watched him disappear into the Packhouse.  That Asshole!  My eyes traveled to the forest, which seemed to be calling me. I slowly stepped towards the tree line. My body felt more at home with every step before I made it to a large rock. The large rock was in front of the Packhouse windows and was often used for members to turn. I took a deep breath and looked around nervously. Strip. A voice in my head commanded. a voice that was not my own. I peeled my athletic wear off that was drenched with sweat from the previous training. I kicked off my shoes and pulled my shorts down so that I was completely bare. The autumn air tickled my body, and yet I didn't feel cold. In fact, I have never felt more alive. I shut my eyes and took long breaths. I felt the air tickle my skin as a strange sensation overcomes my body. I became lightheaded, bending over onto my hands and feet as I panted. I let out a large groan that suddenly turned into a howl. My eyes shot open and I looked around. Everything looked different now. I took off through the forest running. As the sun turned to dusk, a large lake opened up before me. I slowed my pace and made my way tentatively up to the water staring at my reflection. I gasped as my eyes came upon a large dark brown wolf with brown eyes. The animal was huge and caused me to lean back.  That's me? I slowly made my way back to the water and studied myself in the reflection of the water. I broke out in a wide grin, realizing my transformation was complete. All negative feelings rushed aside and I found it to be replaced with excitement. I looked up at the sky that was turning beautiful shades and watched the sun begin to lower. Soon, my stomach growled and I turned around. I was eager to return to the Packhouse for some supper. Especially after skipping my dinner. I quickly made my way back to the Packhouse, just as darkness began to envelop the forest. I reached the large boulder and tightly shut my eyes, feeling the warm sensation overtake me. I took long deep breaths and it felt like just a moment had passed before I was back standing in my upright position. I watched how my bare skin seemed to glow in the moonlight. I lifted my face to the stars and enjoyed the autumn air-breathing life into my bare skin. "Poppy!" I heard Jacob call out running up to me with urgency in his steps. " I thought you were lost! I couldn't find y-" His eyes went wide as he went quiet. His cheeks turned a bright red colour. I looked at him for what felt like no time before I realized what caused him to stop short. I was naked. And he's in full view of everything. I tightly attempted to cover myself and screamed. More in embarrassment than anything else. Jacob quickly whipped around and I watched as he calmed himself. He pulled his grey long-sleeved shirt off and shoved his hand back, offering it to me. "Y-your clothes are probably cold and sweaty since you've been out so long." I watched his back muscles flex as he reached back. A blush made my cheeks turn a bright red as I graciously accepted it. I pulled the large shirt over my head and pulled it down over me. Jacob was so large that his shirt reached my knees. I pulled the sleeves back and pulled my hair out of the shirt hole. "T-thank you. You can turn around now." Jacob turned around and grinned at me. He helped me fetch my clothes from earlier as I had unknowingly thrown them all over the place. "Next time bring something warmer. And fold it before you turn." He laughed and grinned at me, making me feel a little more at ease. I laughed along with him and shrugged my shoulders as we made our way back to the Packhouse. The grass under my bare feet somehow felt different, I felt more in touch with everything. I listened to Jacob talking while enjoying the sudden change of, well... everything.   Aston's P.O.V I sat in the corner of the Packhouse with a can of soda eyeing the pack members who were mingling towards each other.  Who did she think she was? Just coming up to me like that. I turned my head towards, Casy? Carly? I really couldn't remember her name. I watched her full lips as she spoke though I wasn't really listening. I simply nodded along and thought about the activities I would be doing with her later that day. She was a tall girl with olive skin and green eyes, with black hair. she had come from an ally pack for further training. "Are you even listening to me?" She watched me, a scowl on her face as I turned my face back towards her and reached out, brushing her hand with my fingers. I took another sip of my soda before answering. "Sorry, I was just thinking about how beautiful you are." I gave her a smirk causing a red blush to spring onto her cheeks.  Jackpot. I could see her basically melting under my gaze as I grinned at her before looking back towards the large group. My eyebrows furrowed as I looked around the room.  She's not back yet? Why is she not back yet? I glanced up at the digital clock, noticing it had been over an hour since I left her outside. I looked back towards the woman beside me as she ran her perfectly manicured black nails up my arm in a suggestive manner. "You know. I'd love to see the Future Alpha's room." She purred at me. I nodded my head and stood, throwing my now empty can into the recycling bin while grabbing the girl's hand.  I need a way to get my mind off of her. I looked back at the tall woman and gave her a sly wink while ascending the stairs. I look behind her and scan the lower level for any sign of my mate.  Damnit Rookie, What have you done to me? I looked up at the clock while holding my fork. It was Supper time. She has been gone for hours. Where the hell is She? Though I hated to admit it, concern for my mate was at the forefront of my mind throughout the afternoon. I simply could not shake her. I looked down at my large plate of steak with a Ceasar and veggies. I used the fork to move the veggies around while I thought of the previous night. The way she felt was unlike anything I could have ever dreamed of. Since I was incredibly drunk that night, I doubted my memory. However, waking up next to her proved the night happened. I didn't know just how long I could keep away from her. The thought frustrated me to no end. I wasn't supposed to have a mate, not yet. I wasn't done playing around. The gentle creak of the door opening caught my attention. My head quickly lifted to see her try to quietly make her way in. I watched the way she looked around to ensure no one was paying any attention. Her chocolate brown hair was pulled back, but that didn't stop it from letting a few strands frame her face. I watched her light hazel eyes dark around the room. I watched as she slid in. She was wearing an incredibly large shirt that went down to her knees. That wasn't what she left in. A low growl unconsciously escaped my chest as I watched the Rookie enter into the room with a shirtless man following behind her. The Rookie is my mate. And no one will have her the way I do! Jealousy swelled in me as I tightly gripped my fork, watching them quietly wade through the group of people for their meals. She's just going to act like this isn't happening? Like she didn't just f**k the guy while her mates an Alpha.  I begrudgingly took a large bite of my steak and watched her intently as she sat with the Member of the ally pack. Just you wait Rookie. Tonight I'll make sure only I can give you what you crave.
