The morning light in Lagos felt sharper than usual, cutting through Amara’s bedroom window as if the sun itself demanded vigilance. She had barely slept again, haunted by the previous day’s exchanges with Tari and the knowledge that Ethan was already planning his own countermoves. Amara rose quietly, slipping into a sleek grey pantsuit, her hair pulled into a tight bun. Today would not be about emotional reaction; today would be about action. THE CORPORATE MOVE Arriving at Lawson Group headquarters, Amara immediately convened an emergency board meeting. The topic: unauthorized access and potential internal sabotage. The boardroom was tense when she entered. Executives shifted nervously, papers rustling like whispers of betrayal. Amara’s calm, commanding presence filled the room. “I have been made aware,” she began, “that someone within our inner circle attempted unauthorized access to company records and finances. I want to be clear: this will not be tolerated.” Eyes widened as murmurs spread. Amara fixed the CFO, Mr. Okeke, with a piercing gaze. “I want a full forensic audit on my desk by tomorrow. IP addresses, timestamps, users, every single anomaly.” He nodded. “Madam, I understand. We’ll have it ready.” “Good,” she said. “Additionally, all access to critical accounts is being revoked and reassigned. Temporary, but strictly monitored.” The subtle implication was clear, anyone who dared overstep would be held accountable. She leaned forward, voice low but sharp: “I am not just the figurehead here. I am the authority. Anyone who forgets that will be reminded.” A silence settled one of those moments where no one dared breathe too loudly. Amara exhaled slowly. Power, when exercised calmly, was terrifying. HOME FRONTS COLLIDE Returning home, Amara sensed a shift immediately. Tari had arrived early again an almost daily occurrence now and was arranging baby items in the guest room, her presence more forceful than before. Amara didn’t react. Instead, she approached Tari deliberately, letting the silence stretch before speaking. “Tari,” she said, calm and cold, “you will not enter the guest room without prior notice. And your presence in this house will be limited to appointments that Ethan explicitly schedules.” Tari blinked, flustered. “Amara, I just wanted to help.” “Helping is fine,” Amara replied, voice smooth as glass, “but overstepping boundaries is not. Remember that.” Tari’s face tightened. She had expected Amara to plead, cry, or negotiate but this calm, controlled dominance was unfamiliar. Amara turned and walked upstairs, leaving Tari standing stiffly in the hallway, silent and seething. ETHAN’S IRRITATION Ethan returned home that evening and immediately sensed the tension. He found Amara in the living room, reviewing reports she had printed from the office. “Amara,” he said cautiously, “why are you so cold?” “I am not cold,” she replied evenly. “I am focused. You, however, appear to have misplaced priorities.” Ethan frowned. “Are you talking about Tari?” “Yes,” she said simply. “She is your responsibility, not mine. And I will not allow her to disrupt my life, my marriage, or my company.” Ethan’s frustration rose visibly. “Amara, you’re overreacting. You can’t keep treating her as if she’s the enemy. She’s carrying our child.” Amara’s eyes narrowed. “Your child,” she corrected softly, letting the word linger like a blade. “I am the one being replaced. Not the other way around.” He took a step closer, exasperated. “You’re being unreasonable.” “No,” she said firmly, standing. “I am being necessary. If I don’t draw these lines, there won’t be a line left to draw. Not in this house. Not in this marriage. Not in my life.” The words hung between them like smoke. Ethan said nothing. He had no reply. Finally, Think about what I just said.” THE FIRST PUBLIC RIPPLE The following day, Amara returned to Lawson Group headquarters. Kachi met her at the entrance, eyes wide with concern. “Madam there’s something you need to see,” Kachi said quietly, handing her a tablet. Amara scrolled through the company’s internal news feed. Her eyes narrowed. An employee had posted on LinkedIn, praising Tari’s recent philanthropic work which Amara had funded and framing it as evidence of Tari’s influence over company matters. The post had hundreds of likes and shares. Comments praised Tari’s involvement, questioned Amara’s role, and subtly implied she had been sidelined. Amara felt her stomach tighten. This was the first public c***k one she hadn’t anticipated. “Track the author,” she said, voice low. “I want a complete audit. And find out who approved linking Tari’s profile with Lawson Group activities.” Kachi nodded. “Already on it, madam.” Amara’s jaw tightened. This wasn’t just private warfare anymore. The battlefield had gone public. A SECRET ALLY EMERGES Later that evening, Chuka appeared at her apartment unexpectedly. He had been monitoring the digital activity, and his face carried a grim expression. “They’ve escalated,” he said. “This isn’t just domestic. They’re trying to undermine your authority publicly, using Tari as a figurehead. And they’re smart about it.” Amara’s lips pressed together. “Good. Let them be smart. I’ll be smarter.” Chuka’s eyes softened. “You’re not doing this alone. You have allies. You have the resources. But this will get messy.” “I know,” she said. “It already is. And it’s only beginning.” Chuka placed a hand lightly on her shoulder. “Be careful. Ethan isn’t just the man you married. He’s also the man people follow. And he’s torn between loyalty and comfort. You need to anticipate him as much as Tari.” Amara nodded slowly, absorbing the weight of the strategy. For the first time in weeks, she felt her plan crystallizing. THE NIGHT DECISION That night, Amara sat alone in her office at home, city lights sparkling outside her window. She reviewed all her notes, documents, and plans digital, financial, and domestic. The house was silent. Tari had gone to bed early. Ethan was in his study, likely reviewing legal documents Amara had quietly requested Chuka to prepare. Amara sipped her wine and allowed herself a small, satisfied smile. Tomorrow, she would implement the next phase of her counterstrategy, Tari’s influence would be tested. Ethan’s loyalties would be measured. And she would reclaim control over her marriage, her home, and her empire. The glass that had contained her, her patience, her kindness, her vulnerability was cracking. And Amara Lawson was about to shatter it completely.
