On The Place of ReadingI first visited a library in Milford, CT, in first grade. I remember my mother taking me and even some of the books I checked out, authors like Thornton Burgess, Howard R. Garis who wrote the Uncle Wiggily stories, Br’er Rabbit, Raggedy Ann—holy cow, even then I didn’t want to be who I was, I must have decided to be a rabbit instead, unless it was just the most popular critter of the times.
