Well, I guess I won’t waste any more time worrying that I don’t keep in touch with them enough. All I wanted to do was express that I loved them and that I’d love to interact with them more. That. Was. All. It made me think. We love our children and would die for them (but we don’t always really know them). How can you raise them for the future when you’re using the skills your parents knew? Anyhow it made me realize I’ve had friends I’ve known longer (and better) than my own children. I’m still in contact with M. I’ve known her since we were eight years old. And then there’s driving and music—I’m currently listening to songs I first heard and loved over fifty years ago! These things define us too.
