Chapter Thirty Two

1076 Words

The morning arrived wrapped in fog. Evie woke to grey light filtering through her windows, the world outside obscured by mist so thick it looked like the estate was floating in nothingness. She lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling, feeling the weight of yesterday's conversations pressing down on her chest like a physical thing. Two more days until the next full moon. Two more days until she'd have to face the question again. Two more days of watching Nate fade. She pushed herself out of bed, muscles aching like she'd run a marathon despite barely moving yesterday. Stress, probably. Her body holding tension she didn't know how to release. The house was quiet. Too quiet. Usually by this time, she'd hear pack members moving around. Morning routines. Breakfast preparations.
