Mrs Brooke finally reached us, and she didn’t even acknowledge anyone other than her husband.
“There you are, you cheating weasel!” She hissed at him.
The zombie was just as riled up and spat back, “for a woman of your background, you sure are stupid!”
This set his wife into a frenzy of expletives and outrage, and when she spat the last vile language from her mouth she finally broke down in tears. “I can’t believe…you would…do this to me…I really thought you loved me,” she sobbed and drew a handkerchief out of her purse.
Up until this point, the zombie, aka John, had been smiling slightly, like he was enjoying the argument, but seeing his wife cry, his face dropped, and he became more solemn.
“Oh, Dorothy, don’t cry, come on, we used to enjoy our arguments because we always knew what came next didn’t we?” He winked at her, and she smiled slightly.
She composed herself somewhat and said, “why did you cheat on me, and before you deny it, I saw you with Sarah, going alone at night to her home for two weeks, John.”
He looked confused for a moment, and then dawning lit his face. “Oh Dorothy, you silly woman, that’s why you’ve got into your head I had an affair. No, it wasn’t like that at all. I was going around there because she’s your best friend and knows you best, I wanted to celebrate our 30-year anniversary.”
He waved his hands at her and carried on, “I know, I know, we always said we didn’t need to celebrate or splash out, but after so long together I just thought how lucky I was to have such an amazing woman and this time I just wanted to show you that. I was planning on taking you on a trip to the Maldives, I know it was your dream to go there, and Sarah was just helping me plan it all. She still has the tickets if you would just stop ignoring her and listen to her.”
Dorothy widened her eyes and said, “how do you know I’ve been ignoring-“
He cut her off mid-sentence and muttered, “it’s you, of course you’d be ignoring her and shutting her out of your life without knowing all the facts, you’re a stubborn woman.”
She laughed at that and nodded. Through all of this exchange, Lucan had been patiently standing to the side with his arms folded silently and his head downcast to give them some sort of privacy.
He was so incredibly gorgeous, no, beautiful, and I couldn’t stop staring at him. He must have felt my gaze because he looked up at me and I blushed hotly, quickly looking away.
Thankfully, the zombie chose that moment to speak to Lucan and asked, “are we not allowed to be alone for any sort of intimacy?”
He was a very confident man, though I suppose at this point what more did he have to lose by asking.
His wife was blushing crimson, and I blushed just hard as she was because me and my damn empathic ways had me feeling everything she was.
Lucan actually looked uncomfortable with the question and cleared his throat before answering, “I could allow you to spend one night with your wife as I’ve seen no worrying signs that anything bad will happen, but I would strongly advise against having i*********e, Mr Brooke.”
“Why?”
Lucan looked even more uncomfortable if that were possible and cleared his throat again.
“Well, Um, as good as you look with your upper body, and you may look ok lower down, you are still using a decomposing body which I don’t think would be very healthy or hygienic for Mrs Brooke. I focused most of my energy on certain areas of your body, like your face and hands, parts your wife would see most.”
The zombie thought about this for a while and then asked, “ok, but what if we used protection?”
He was really wanting this last night with his wife.
Lucan stepped in close to the zombie and quietly murmured, “ok, let me be more clear, Mr Brooke. I’ve had more than two clients report back that during i*********e, the zombies… member detached inside, do you understand?” He gave full hard eye contact to the zombie to really drive in what he was talking about and, finally the zombie’s eyes widened in horror, and if it was even possible, he lost some color in his cheeks.
He still chose to spend one last night with his wife, just not quite that intimately. We left with them and followed them in their car back to a cheap motel.
Lucan had explained to them that he couldn’t just let the zombie wander off completely, which, unfortunately for me, meant we had to tag along, staying in a separate motel room next door to them and probably me doing something that would create more suspicion from Lucan.
While the Brooke couple paid for their room, I didn’t know what to do, I hadn’t thought I’d need any money and stupidly had left my purse at home and given the last of my change to the wereleopard guy.
I followed behind Lucan slowly and breathed a big sigh of relief when he paid for a room with two single beds and didn’t turn to ask me to pay half.
He took the key off the old lady and I followed him to where the other two were just opening their door. “Goodnight.” They both said in unison to us and shut the door, not waiting for a reply.
Lucan raised his eyebrows and shook his head a little and opened the door to our room. I looked around when we were inside and couldn’t help but worry how small it was. The beds were very close with only a tiny bedside table separating them with a lamp on top.
It was small and dark but with the lamp on it gave off a very cozy vibe. There was a small bathroom area with a toilet, sink, and a bath tub rather than a shower. The walls were simply white and the tiles too. The room itself had a brown carpet and beige walls.
As much as I couldn’t deny having an incredibly big crush on Lucan I also couldn’t forget that he was very different to any other necromancer I had ever met and may be dangerous to me.
I didn’t want to be trapped in a tiny room with him and wake up to a stake through my heart because he’d figured out while I was sleeping that I was really a vampire.
