Gabbi's POV
The last month or so has been super weird, if I'm honest with myself. First, my absent-for-years brother is stupid enough to actually bring home a human mate. Well, as it turned out, he didn't have much of a choice because, obviously, he's an i***t, and he left his freaking Alpha scent all over her and basically painted a "kidnap me" target on her back. Without explaining a damn thing to her.
The entire pack freaked out, of course, because as much as a fated mate makes us our best and strongest selves, they also become our weakness. Any threat against our mates can turn us into a complete mess, and as the future Alpha, Markus has to be strong. A human mate was a weakness in the pack's defenses, a way to get to our Alpha and cause him pain or drive him completely insane.
