Prologue
Emily ran through the rain without looking back.
Her shoes slipped against the wet pavement as she hurried away from the mansion that had changed her life.
She could still hear Alexander's voice in her head.
“Emily, wait!”
But she couldn't stop.
Not now.
Not after everything that had happened.
She clutched the small envelope in her hand and pressed it tightly against her chest. She hadn't planned to leave like this. She hadn't planned to walk away from Lily, from the mansion, or from the man she had spent the entire summer trying so hard not to fall for.
But sometimes, one lie was enough to destroy everything.
Three months earlier, Emily had never imagined she would become involved with Alexander.
She had barely even heard his name before her two best friends came up with the craziest idea of their lives.
“It's only for the summer,” they had told her.
“Work as a servant in a billionaire's mansion.”
Emily had laughed at them.
Until they made her a bet.
If she completed the summer without falling in love with the billionaire, she would win.
But if she fell for him...
She would have to buy them two Lamborghinis.
It sounded impossible.
Alexander was rich, intimidating, and known for keeping people at a distance. He was a divorced father who cared more about protecting his five-year-old daughter than anything else.
Emily thought she could handle him.
She was wrong.
Because Alexander wasn't the only person waiting for her inside that mansion.
There was Lily—the quiet little girl who barely spoke and didn't trust people easily.
There was the mysterious old chef who seemed to know more about Alexander's family than she ever admitted.
And then there was Victoria.
Alexander's ex-wife.
The woman who had every reason to hate Emily.
Emily had no idea that Victoria's return would turn her simple summer job into a battle for trust, love, and the safety of a little girl.
She also didn't know that Alexander was hiding painful secrets of his own.
Secrets that would eventually make Emily question everything he had ever told her.
And by the time she discovered the truth, it would be too late to simply walk away.
Because somewhere between cleaning his mansion, caring for his daughter, and surviving his impossible temper...
Emily had fallen in love with the billionaire.
And Alexander?
He had fallen much harder.
But before their story could have a happy ending, Emily would have to discover just how dangerous loving Alexander could be.
And the summer had only just begun.
