Chapter 26: Avoiding Questions“It was late in the afternoon when David made it back inside the big house. Josie was waiting for him.
“She had lunch in the attic. She's still up there as far as I know.” He could see the puzzlement in her brown eyes, but she did not ask why.
“Did y'all want dinner for two?”
“No thank you, Josie. We're going out this evening. Why don't you take tonight off? I need a shower before going upstairs.”
He wanted no more questions. He was hoping Ardith Rolfe wouldn't have too many. Once out of the shower he considered calling Jerry, but as he walked out of the bedroom, Ardith was descending the stairs carrying the sketch book and several albums.
